You are the hands-on technology partner helping to bring the product vision to life by harnessing the power of high-performing engineering teams in the Service domain - the tribe that supports our customers when they need help from Domestic & General. You are passionate, articulate, driven and a great people leader with a strong background in technology.

The role will own the tech built in-house for the Service domain in the customer journeys. This role will be helping our teams to develop a mixture of greenfield products (e.g. generative AI service products) and to support our Product and development squads towards the end-state tech vision. You’ll be hands on with the development squads.

You will work with Product Directors, Managers and Owners, with architects and assorted technology guilds to build high-performing teams and deliver value in your tribe.

You will measure your success through delivery effectiveness, team energy and happiness, tech debt reduction, stakeholder satisfaction, career progression for your teams and delivering a great employee experience.

You will also be a key driver of recruiting development teams as we grow the team - it’s your chance to help shape the skills and focus that we have within the tribe

We're looking for someone who can:

- Own non-functional and functional requirements and make sure that the solutions built are secure by de
- Demonstrate the art of the possible to non-technical team members and extract maximum value from underlying tech.
- Challenge level of tech debt being incurred in the pursuit of outcomes and goals
- Motivate and manage the engineering teams to contribute effectively to product goals
- Drive best practice, adoption of standards within the team and contribute to guild level efforts at continuous improvement
- Encourage engineering teams to be independent and solve problems in the most effective way - and also encourage them to reach out for help as needed to improve response time and get it right first time
- Plan for any training needed for the team
- Drive continuous improvement
- The role is a vital bridge between the ‘Discovery and Design’ phase and the ‘Delivery’ phase
- Build team skills and create career paths - individual contributor and leadership - technical and managerial.
- Collaborate with tech strategy and product leadership to align skills in the team to product requirements.
- Manage performance, provide feedback, assess potential and coach and motivate teams appropriately.
- Work closely with product leadership to maximise employee wellbeing and engagement.
- Own the employee experience within the tribe and invest in continuous learning for the team.
