London, United Kingdom Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Full time

The South East Genomic Medicine Service (SE GMS) seeks a motivated Network Coordinator to join our team and contribute to the delivery of SE GMSA’s Networks of Excellence.

NHS England launched eight Genomic Networks of Excellence (NoE) in January 2024 to provide a world-leading NHS Genomic Medicine Service (GMS). These networks develop evidence and models for adopting cutting-edge genomic advances, transforming patient care. The SE GMS will lead NoEs in severe infectious disease, cardiovascular disease, and Genomics Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The Genomic AI Network of Excellence will integrate NHS genomic medicine, AI development, and research to accelerate AI adoption in NHS genomic services. It will build a national AI genomics community, create frameworks for AI deployment, and deliver programmes generating evidence for AI's benefits within Genomics.

The Severe Presentation of Infectious Diseases NoE will enhance understanding and management of life-threatening infectious diseases using genomic technologies for pathogen detection and host immunity profiling. This network will focus on sequencing pathogens and profiling host immunity in acute healthcare settings, accelerating personalised treatments for vulnerable patients.

This is an exciting time to join the team as genomics advances in multiple medical areas, delivering better and faster patient outcomes. The post holder will have a meaningful impact in NHS genomic services, working on programmes of significance.

The Network Coordinator will play a pivotal role in providing essential project and business coordination for two exciting Genomic Networks of Excellence: the Severe Presentation of Infectious Diseases Genomics Network and the Genomics AI Network of Excellence.

For the Severe Presentation of Infectious Diseases Network of Excellence the Network Coordinator will support the mobilisation and implementation of the Respiratory Metagenomics Programme across England. The role will support the Respiratory Metagenomics Delivery group through project coordination, service improvement and monitoring performance against key milestones.

For the Genomics AI Network of Excellence the Network Coordinator will support the organisation of events, the coordination of a diverse array of projects, and help establish a vibrant Genomics AI community across England. Additionally, the role will help to explore patient and public trust in the use of AI within Genomics and identify barriers to the adoption of AI solutions.

The post holder will ensure that all network activities are designed and delivered in a patient centred way and are in alignment with the GMS’s commitment to improving equity of access across our diverse population.

The national NHS Genomic Medicine Service consists of seven Genomic Laboratory Hubs (GLH) and seven Genomic Medicine Service Alliances (GMSA) across England. The South East GMS comprises the South East GLH and South East GMSA, covering South London, Kent, Surrey, and Sussex.

We deliver standardised genomic testing pathways according to the National Genomic Test Directory and embed genomic medicine into routine care. Our goal is to reduce unwarranted variation and improve patient outcomes by integrating genomic advances into clinical care.

We facilitate strong collaborations across disciplines, providing clinical leadership to enable the multi-professional workforce to use genomics safely and effectively.

The South East Genomic Medicine Service Alliance was established in December 2020 and is co-hosted by Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust and St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The GMSA collaborates to provide consistent and accessible genomic medicine services for a diverse population of around 9 million people. We combine clinical expertise, research, education, and public involvement to enhance genomic medicine delivery.

A senior multi-disciplinary clinical and professional leadership team, led by a Clinical Director, oversees the Alliance’s agenda and programmes. The Clinical Director is responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of the programme, accountable to the SE GMS Medical Director and the South East GMS Partnership Board.

Please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification for a full list of role requirements and main responsibilities.
