The post holder will have delegated authority from the Chief Nurse to ensure that our most vulnerable adult patients are protected, they receive the right care, in the right place by staff who are skilled and sensitive towards their needs.

A number of patients that have contact with the Trust are identified as vulnerable and in need of additional care and protection. These include (but not exclusive to):

- Patients who have a safeguarding risk
- Patients with a learning disability
- Patients with mental health needs, including dementia & delirium.
- Patients with challenging behaviour, demonstrating violence & aggression towards

The post holder will provide the strategic leadership to supporting the operational teams deliver their objectives and will directly line manage the Trusts adult safeguarding Team. The post holder will set annually a clear set of objectives and priorities that will set the Trusts strategic direction.

Duties& responsibilities

The post holder will have the following duties & responsibilities: AdultSafeguarding
- Ensure the Trust meets its statutory responsibility in safe guarding adults, by ensuring the there is an appropriately resourced safe guarding team in place, able to respond to referrals and provide effective advice and support to staff on all aspects of safe guarding.
- Oversee referrals to the safeguarding team, identifying lessons learnt, sharing best practice and identifying teams or individuals where additional support is required
- Represent the Trust at the borough Boards and ensuring the Trust responds to

any action or guidance issued about by the Boards.
- Ensure learning is rolled out across the Trust following internal and external

reviews, evidenced by audit to monitor compliance
- Act as a professional advisor to staff within the Trust on all matters relating to safe

guarding adults

MentalHealth, Dementia & Delirium
- Provide Trust wide leadership for patients with mental health needs, working with clinical services and external parties to ensure we can provide appropriate, sensitive care and we comply with the Mental Health Act
- Work with external partners, to ensure the Trust has appropriate SLA’s in place
- Ensure that local mental health providers are compliant with the London wide

Mental health concordat.
- Ensure staff are compliant across the Trust with the Mental capacity Act & DOLs

legislation
- Act as a professional advisor to staff within the Trust on all matters relating to

mental health
- Provide Trust wide leadership to take forward the dementia friendly hospital

charter and the Trusts dementia priorities.

LearningDisabilities
- Working with the Trust learning disability team the post holder will ensure that all staff and services are compliant with the national learning disability standards
- Working with the Associate Director of Nursing for childrens and Young Persons will ensure children with a learning disability successfully transition to adult services]

Education& Training
- The post holder will ensure that the appropriate education and training is in place for all staff groups to meet the needs of our vulnerable patients, training which is integrated and equips the workforce effectively whilst meeting our statutory responsibilities.
- Will be responsible for external reporting on key training numbers and

monitoring the Trust wide impact of the training in place.
- Staff are trained to appropriately assess and use restraint and the least

restrictive practice.
- There is an appropriate training programme for staff to manage challenging

behaviour and use de-escalation and conflict resolution strategies.
- Working with the Head of Security agree the Trusts strategy for reducing the

level of violence & aggression towards staff and patients.
- Identify themes from investigations and roll out and share learning.
- Ensure all staff who are victims of an incident are fully supported.

Governance
- The post holder will ensure the Trust is fully briefed on all aspects of national

policy and presented with a plan for compliance across the Trust
- The post holder will work closely with the Head of Children’s Safeguarding and the Associate Director of nursing
