**Job summary**:
As a Policy Designer you will be a key part of an experimental and consultative team, striving towards improving departmental policymaking outcomes and capabilities, so we are looking for motivated and curious individuals.

**Job description**:
As a Policy Designer working within PEx these are some of the things you will be doing:
You will be working within a diverse team to consider ranging policy questions and areas of development, adopting various methodologies including user-centred design approaches.

You will facilitate workshops, interviews, focus groups and utilise other techniques to effectively understand the policy questions, organisational considerations and user needs.

You will develop and maintain stakeholder relationships, communicating effectively across Policy and business stakeholders and ensuring the understanding of the problems and opportunities are aligned.

You will gain a good understanding of the impacts on citizen and departmental outcomes of the policy areas and associated designs. You will select the appropriate techniques to model and identify potential improvements.

You will conduct research, analyse evidence bases and use design techniques to create recommendations for Stakeholders for ongoing policy development.

You will take ownership for improving your own knowledge of Policymaking techniques, analysis and design principles, including coaching and supporting others, as appropriate.

You will maintain understanding of the wider strategic context (i.e. ministerial priorities) and supporting activity across the wider Strategy Directorate.

You will play a role in shaping the ongoing development of PEx, including through advocating innovative approaches to policymaking and supporting the team position themselves as a consultative unit for DWP Policymakers

**Person specification**:
**Experience Key Criteria**
- ** Problem-solving (lead criteria)**: Experienced in using a wide range of analysis and design techniques to solve problems and explore opportunities of complexity and depth. You must demonstrate experience of structuring and managing the design process, framing problems and minimising ambiguity. You must be able to demonstrate the balance of choices, and experience of communicating persuasive recommendations.
- ** Collaboration**:You need to demonstrate evidence of working in a collaborative and open way, including experience as being a team player in project workstreams and collaborating with stakeholders towards outcomes. This includes the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to others.
- ** Research**: You must demonstrate evidence of analysis and synthesis of varied evidence bases for example conducting horizon-scanning, data analysis, user research, business process modelling, user journey mapping or other methods to inform design outcomes.
- ** Experimentation and innovation**: You must evidence experience of working in an evolving environment and use of iterative methods and flexible approaches to innovate processes/practices/ policy.
