This is a new service bringing together our intranet team and our GOV.UK publishing team. It does not include external comms and is not aligned to the Communications Profession. Our goal is to make DLUHC informational content user-centred and accessible, whether for staff or citizens. As a Content Designer you will work with other Content Designers and the Service Manager to turn drafts of policy and corporate information into accessible, user-friendly digital publications, coaching policy teams along the way. You will work as part of the service team, managing workload in an agile way.

**Job description**:
This role is based in the Digital directorate but will have strong connections to DLUHC’s policy and corporate teams, who are the customers of the service. You will be part of the Content Design Community.

As a Content Designer you will have responsibility for shepherding policy or internal teams who have something to publish from draft stage to an accessible, content-designed final product. Working with others you will prioritise requests, and pragmatically improve work, whilst keeping to external deadlines when required.

This is not a technical IT post but experience of working with websites or digital content design is essential. Agile delivery management and user-centred design skills will also help you, because these are core values of the team.

In this role you will:

- Advise policy officials on publishing process, timelines and requirements
- Create GOV.UK publication pages
- Create GOV.UK markdown (HTML) publications
- Use a content management system (CMS) to publish HTML guidance on the intranet
- Take on responsibilities related to the service such as attending editor forums, holding the GDS relationship, inbox management, content audits, gathering feedback, etc.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility regulations, working with our Accessibility lead
- Peer review colleagues’ work and join content crit sessions
- Contribute to identifying performance metrics and evaluating content, as a team
- Contribute to an agile team culture and work to improve the service you provide
- Line manage other writers in the team

**Person specification**:
Essential skills and experience:

- Experience in creating digital content as part of an internal or external customer-facing service, including continuous improvement
- Experience of working with stakeholders to communicate what you can and can’t deliver, and being comfortable saying no under pressure
- Comfortably working in a self-organising team, helping others as well as completing your own tasks
- Understanding of how your work contributes to wider business objectives, taking the initiative to suggest improvements or efficiencies when you see them
- A good understanding of user-centred design principles and content accessibility
- Optimise publication pages using SEO guidelines
