Job overview

You will be able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and support the Undergraduate Team with the delivery of the Medical Education Curriculum. In return, you will benefit from the ability to develop your clinical examination teaching skills. You will also work within the general surgery department.

We are looking for somebody who has a particular interest in medical education and will put funding towards a 1 year PG Cert in Medical Education.

The Educational Fellow post will provide the fellow with an opportunity to gain experience in medical educations organisation and delivery of the curriculum within the Hospital setting.

The Fellow will have varying responsibilities for the organisation and delivery of undergraduate teaching in conjunction with the undergraduate team. This includes the Academic Lead for Skills, Head of Service NCA, Clinical Skills Manager, Undergraduate Medical Education administration team, and Academic Year Leads and skills tutors. The fellow will be expected to participate in promoting and developing clinical examinations
and skills teaching in line with current practice.

Main duties of the job

1. To provide educational support for the delivery of the University of Manchester Undergraduate programme.

2. To provide clinical cover in Surgery.
The University of Manchester Undergraduate Surgery Curriculum is amongst the most progressive in the UK and is continually evolving in order to prepare its graduates for the rapidly changing world of medical practice. A key purpose of the post is to support the Trust in its delivery and development of high-quality educational programme for undergraduate medical students that underpins and consolidates their learning on clinical placements. The objective is to prepare students for clinical practice and the transition to postgraduate Foundation training, while building confidence and developing professionalism. To encourage this work the Undergraduate department will also support a

PG Certificate with £2000 towards the cost of the course.

- Must have completed UK Foundation Years 1 & 2 programme
- Medical Teaching experience
- Experience of recent direct patient care
- Working knowledge of the requirements of Undergraduate Medical Education
- Ability to organise work load efficiently
- Multidisciplinary team working with excellent communication skills
- Commitment to a career in general surgery
