Take the Carrick Yard housing development in Luton Street. When a big international building firm couldn’t find a sales partner, we stepped in to create a joint venture partnership and underwrite any unsold units to protect our investment. Then when we felt a big banking partner would be overcharging the venture for financing the development, we decided to finance it ourselves. The result? 171 homes are now under construction, leading the redevelopment of the Church Street area, whilst the council is projecting a potential return on investment of almost 14% - far in excess of anything that can be achieved on cash deposits in current market conditions.

And why does this success matter? Because it allows us to invest even more in public services that are the lifeblood of our communities.

**The Role**:
As a Commercial Officer working on diverse, sub 100k contracts, you can make your own powerful contribution to Westminster’s financial stability and success. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new team implementing new processes that ensure we achieve value for money for residents. You’ll support the team in researching products and services, communicating with stakeholders and partners, and completing the procurement process from tender to award of contracts.

There is plenty of scope for innovation and learning. The diverse portfolio, which cuts across everything from public health and environment to children’s services, offers every opportunity to build your procurement skills and develop a commercial specialism. It’s a challenging environment with tight, pressurised deadlines, but you’ll be surrounded at every step by a supportive, collaborative team.

**About You**:
You’re likely to have a background in a procurement, finance or project management environment. Your commercial acumen will ideally be matched by knowledge of procurement procedures including contract law, risk management and contract management. Educated to at least A level standard (or equivalent), you will demonstrate high levels of literacy and numeracy as well as proficiency in using computer software such as Microsoft Office. Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential and you must be ready to organise your own time and work at pace to meet demanding deadlines.
