**Salary**:£17,100

Newbury Building Society has created this new role to further develop and implement our environmental and sustainability strategy, whilst being supported to attain the Level 4 apprenticeship in Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility.

The successful applicant will grow within this role, working with key stakeholders and relevant teams across the organisation to shape and coordinate our environmental ambitions and initiatives.

Apprentice training, provided by **LDN Apprenticeships**, will support you to learn how to act as the social conscience for an organisation and drive its social and environmental change ambitions. The course content aligns to the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Competency Framework and apprentices receive free membership to the ICRS for the duration of the apprenticeship. You may continue to develop within this role or move to another opportunity within the organisation as you will join us on a permanent contract.

**What will you be doing?**:

- Assisting the Premises & Facilities Manager to build Newbury Building Society’s sustainability/environmental strategy, targets and roadmap.
- Carrying out external research and ongoing ‘horizon scanning’ to ensure the Society understands emerging policies, regulations, disclosures, trends.
- Providing benchmarking data and reports on climate change and ESG.
- Working with key people and teams across the organisation to gain their inputs, buy-in and to drive through S&CR initiatives, in particular:

- Climate change commitments
- Carbon footprint reduction
- Membership and support of the Society’s “Green Agenda committee”.

Develop standards, processes and deliver relevant ongoing operational activities:

- Report and advise on how we are complying with all UK regulations and legislative requirements including external disclosures on Environment Social Governance.
- Produce and develop environmental disclosures to meet best practice (TCFD) standards.
- Establish/coordinate/monitor CR&S budget activity, ensuring effective spend and investment decisions.
- Support the Risk Management team with the climate risk agenda.
- Become our expert thought-leader. Share what you’ve learnt via your apprenticeship to inject external perspective back into our organisation.

**Why work for us?**:

- **We care about our communities** - as well as providing financial services, we get involved in supporting our local area. This means regular opportunities to volunteer, fundraise, and help with community events and activities. We also give all our employees two paid days of volunteering every year to help with causes they feel passionately about.
- **We are an industry leader** - our distinction award with the Institute of Customer Service reflects our true commitment to ensuring a consistently first-class experience, and we’re a consistent high performer in the British Bank Awards.
- **We have a superb working environment **- our recently opened Head Office is a fantastic, modern place to work in central Newbury, with state-of-the-art facilities where you will be fully technologically equipped to deliver at your best.
- **We have been awarded local 'Employer of the Year'** - we are proud and delighted to have won this award at this year's **Newbury Best in Business Awards**, organised by Newbury Weekly News.
- **We want to help you develop** - we are accredited by the Financial Services National College for the quality of our learning and development practices. No matter your role, there will be opportunities to take on new responsibilities and be involved in projects to further your career.

You will also receive a generous holiday allowance, contributory stakeholder pension scheme, access to our free NBS Rewards discounts and our wellbeing programmes, and a day off work if it’s your birthday
