**Key responsibilities**

**Information, advice & assessments**
- Work as a member of a team of Carer Advisors, providing effective information, and advice.
- Working on a rota basis, respond to calls to the Carer Advice Line.
- Provide accurate, up to date, evidence-based information and support using appropriate communication channels, e.g., telephone, in writing and face-to-face.
- Identify and deal appropriately with safeguarding situations in line with established policies and procedures.
- Maintain and develop knowledge of relevant services, to ensure that carers can be referred or signposted to a range of other sources of relevant information and support.
- Liaise with colleagues from other organisations as necessary aimed at increasing carers’ resilience, helping them to develop coping strategies, prevent a breakdown in their caring role and promote their wellbeing

**General**
- Work flexibly to support carers and the needs of the service. The service operates Monday-Friday, 9am - 5pm and the post holder is required to contribute to a rota and to cover for absent colleagues, as necessary.
- Maintain accurate, up to date and timely records for carers, in keeping with the Carers Centre standards.
- Maintain clarity on the boundaries of the role and own knowledge, recognising when it is appropriate to signpost or refer carers to other colleagues, services or sources of specialist information or advice.
- Operate within the Carers Centre policies, protocols and procedures including GDPR, Health and Safety, data protection, confidentiality, record keeping and safeguarding.
- Participate in appropriate training, supervision and appraisal as identified and agreed with the Team Leader and Carer Service Manager.
- To undertake any other reasonable duties that are commensurate with the role.

**Essential experience, skills, and knowledge**
- A good understanding of the needs of carers - either through experience of working with carers (paid or unpaid) or personal experience.
- Experience of providing personalised information and support, using different methods and settings.
- Experience of, and commitment to supporting individuals to utilise and develop their strengths.
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to have focussed conversations involving active listening and communicating verbally and in writing in a range of settings.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to act in a resourceful manner to access support for carers, including accessing relevant information.
- Ability to make sound judgements about complex situations, underpinned by legislation and organisational guidance.
- Accurate recording skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative, whilst also knowing when to seek guidance or direction.
- Knowledge of and commitment to equality and diversity best practice.

**Desirable experience, skills, and knowledge**
- Experience of working in health, social care, or adult services, or of giving advice and guidance to others. This could be in the statutory, voluntary, or private sectors.
- Knowledge of the Care Act and its implications for carer
- Knowledge of other key social care legislation such as the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act
- Knowledge of Community language(s)

**Job Type**: Zero hours contract

Pay: £13.49 per hour
