**How Citizens Advice Stroud and Cotswold Districts work**

Citizens Advice Stroud and Cotswold Districts Ltd (CASCD) is a local charity which operates in Stroud under the name of Citizens Advice Stroud District and in the Cotswolds as Citizens Advice Cotswold District.

Our charity was established in 1958 in Stroud and took over responsibility for the service in the Cotswolds in December 2013. As a local, independent charity, we are members of a national network which collectively is the Citizens Advice Service.

We help people to resolve their legal, financial and other problems by providing information and advice and by influencing policymakers. We also provide a range of specialist casework and targeted services including debt and energy issues.

The service is free, confidential, impartial and independent. It is open to everyone. Almost half of the population will use a Citizens Advice service at some time and we are the largest provider of debt and money advice.

**Overview of Citizens Advice**

The Citizens Advice service is made up of Citizens Advice - the national charity - and a network of around 260 local Citizens Advice members.

This role sits our network of independent charities, delivering services from:

- over 260 local Citizens Advice outlets
- over 2,500 locations including community centres, GP surgeries and prisons

They do this with:

- 8,650 local staff
- over 16,000 trained volunteers

Our reach means 99% of people in England and Wales can access a local Citizens Advice within a 30 minute drive of where they live.

**Trainee Adviser / Supervisor**

We are delighted to present the opportunity to join our Adviser / Supervisor training programme. This is a new programme designed to last 2 years. The post(s) are intended as a career opportunity which could lead to professional progression within the service.

For those who may already be certified as a competent generalist adviser, the training programme can be adapted to reflect prior learning and competence.

Initially a 2-year fixed term contract (extension dependant on funding and performance)

Probation Period 6 months - with possible extension if performance review required

**Reporting to**

Core Services Manager

You will be expected to attend outreach locations as well as our main offices in Cirencester and Stroud; and on completion of the Generalist Adviser Certificate of Competence you can opt to work in accordance with our hybrid working policy.

Dependent on progress, aptitude, and organisational need, year two could be spent giving a blend of advice and supervision, working as a generalist adviser on one of our projects, or training to be a specialist caseworker.

- Triage clients to find out what support they need and identify the best way to help them.
- Interview clients using sensitive listening and questioning skills in order to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities
- Use Citizens Advice resources to find, interpret and communicate the relevant information to clients
- Complete benefits checks and debt assessments when appropriate
- Motivate clients to take positive steps to resolve the problems they face
- Research and explore options and implications so that clients can make informed decisions.
- Act for the client where necessary using appropriate communication skills and channels.
