We have worked with the organisation for the past 20 years and they have stable workforce with a strong forward order book. The role has been developed as workload has grown too much for one individual to look after.

Ideally you will be an experienced purchasing professional, working for a similar manufacturing and engineering firm, where you would have developed a robust, ethically sound, and cost-effective purchasing strategy, one that will mitigate risk and ensurecontinuous supply of goods at the right cost and correct quality. You will have excellent communication skills and can work with suppliers at a strategic level.

This is a Senior Management Position reporting directly to the Executive Board.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the purchasing team. To provide purchasing support and expertise to all internal customers. Using your skills, knowledge and experience, the Purchasing Manager should ensure that the organisation achievesthe best value for money and achieves budgetary targets set. You will ensure that all materials are available to manufacturing at the time of need.

Key responsibilities and duties
- Develop and follow a Purchasing strategy
- Implement and follow robust processes for both purchasing and stores activities
- Ensure all employees comply with the requirement of the Company handbook
- Ensure that Quality, Environment and Health & safety legislation is adhered to
- Identifying and agreeing internal customer requirements
- Manage contractual risk and agree terms. Review contracts as dictated by economic changes
- Co-ordinate the issue and receipt of quotations including the internal/external liaison during the quotation process
- Ensure the latest contracted terms are logged with finance and internal systems reflect the latest conditions and pricing
- Ensure a continuous improvement programme operates within the direct material supply base
- Responsible for maintaining and updating the Purchasing area within the IMS system
- Handle customer compliance issues to include Reach and Rohs
- Maintaining a timely flow in processing exception invoicing and queries
- Ensure supplier performance measures are assessed and reviewed monthly
- Ensuring purchasing KPI’s are assessed and reviewed monthly
- Day to day management of the purchasing and stores team including their training and development
- To meet cost saving targets built into the annual budget or forecasts
- Working closely with engineering in responding to customer enquiries with the required information with expediency
- Identify opportunities for improvement within the department and record all improvements made
- Be always courteous to both internal and external customers’ requests and make every effort to respond with efficiency
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness in the department
- Any other duties that may be required to support the business needs

**Qualifications required/ desirable**
- Degree level or equivalent CIPS Qualification
- Strong English, maths, and financial awareness along with intermediate Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ERP systems knowledge

**Experience required / desirable**
- Decent level of experience working in a similar environment
- Has a proven record in the above job requirements
- Previous negotiation skills
- Working within the SME environment

- Needs to be self-motivated and encouraging
- Needs to have a proven record in leading and managing a team
