**Job summary**:
**Job description**:
The Social Security Coordination Team is one of four Grade 6 led teams within ISD. The role provides leadership and strategic policy oversight on the negotiation, implementation and monitoring/governance of the UK’s international agreements on social security. This includes with the EU, where the department has policy interests and obligations in the Withdrawal Agreement (WA), and the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA), and runs the Secretariat function for the TCA’s Specialised Committee on Social Security Coordination and the EU’s Administrative Commission on the coordination of social security systems. This involves close working with policy teams across the department, HM Revenue and Customs and the Department for Health and Social Care, as well as with the devolved administrations. The role holder will be a core member of the Divisional Leadership Team.

The functions of this team which this role is responsible for leading are:

- the delivery of technical policy, often stemming from EU law or international law, in operational practice, and close working with DWP’s Service Excellence teams and International Group on continuous improvement projects.
- close working with departmental lawyers (and external Counsel), on legal issues arising from international social security policy, including on retained EU law, and in supporting operational teams to implement Court judgments.
- ensuring the policy is represented in the Department’s service modernisation agenda as well as ensuring the Department’s position is represented in the Government’s wider post-Brexit international agenda.

You will need to be able to work autonomously and resiliently to deliver your goals while supporting your team and developing others’ capability.

**Experience Key Criteria**
- Leadership of technical policy work: you should set out your ability to drive the development of technical policy work forward through others and across teams, building strong relationships and working collaboratively at all levels. Experience in social security policy would be advantageous.
- Solving complex policy problems: you should set out your approach to solving policy problems in an uncertain or complex environment, to reach robust decisions and recommendations and to deliver and implement concrete outcomes.
- Strategic thinking in a policy environment: you should set out how you situate your work within the wider aims of your department and influence stakeholders at all levels to deliver against your organisation and/or team’s strategic agenda.
- Working with EU institutions and understanding of EU exit policy and governance.
