As a Records Management Officer - Level 1, you will utilise your organisation and communication skills to manage the large number of paper records requiring safe and compliant storage. You will learn about the different services across the council, the various record types within local government, and gain experience of the full range of records management functions being implemented through the project.

**What you can expect to be doing**:
This role sits within the section of the project that concentrates on indexing physical paper records into a computer system and ensuring the destruction of expired records. At all times the maintenance of the records must be accurate and compliant, adhering to data protection legislation and records management best practice.

The files are not owned by records management, so the role requires excellent customer service skills to handle enquiries from the various internal teams, to meet their needs, as well as preserve the Council’s long-term interests and corporate memory.

Most of the work is office-based, requiring good IT skills (Microsoft Office programs) and the ability to learn new computer systems quickly. However, the role also requires physically retrieving files from shelves in a large repository (much like retrieving large and heavy books in a sizable library), therefore you must also be comfortable with the physical aspects of the role - manual handling training will be provided.

**About you**:
The job description and person specification references two levels, you need to meet the requirements for level 1 only. If you have excellent organisation skills, you are committed to high-standards, and have an attention to detail, we would like to hear from you.

The role will be based at County Hall, Dorchester; however, travel may be required to other Council sites. Homeworking is not possible in this role.

This post requires significant travel. You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.
