Independent Sector Placements Officer

Trowbridge, United Kingdom Wiltshire Council Full time

Summary

**THIS POST IS ONLY OPEN TO WILTSHIRE COUNCIL EMPLOYEES, WILTSHIRE CARE EXPERIENCED YOUNG PEOPLE, AGENCY WORKERS AND SOCIAL CARE STUDENTS ON PLACEMENT WITH WILTSHIRE COUNCIL**

We have an exciting opportunity for an Independent Sector Placements Officer to join the team on a FTE permanent contract.

**LIVE **WORK** COLLABORATE**

The (0-25) Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities Service exists to improve outcomes and make a positive difference to the lives of children and young people with SEND, and their families, who require support to be included in their community.

**About the role**

As Independent Sector Placements Officer you will be a principal case manager for very complex cases, discussing ways forward with internal LA colleagues, educational settings, parents and young people, making decisions and liaising with senior managers about decisions required.

This post will focus on requests for and management of Independent Sector School and College Placements.

Alongside the Senior Lead Worker (ISS) and wider operational SEND team, you will have a key role in supporting access to and availability of appropriate education provision for a range of very vulnerable children and young people with special needs. You will actively hold an overview of the entire cohort but specifically provide SEN expertise at point of placement, phase transfer and crisis points.

Your focus will be on pupil outcomes, whilst securing good communications and professional relationships, taking a partnership approach.

Beyond your responsibilities at casework level, you will lead on a range of strategic activities at cohort level, as referenced in the Job Description.

You will develop and maintain effective operational links with Commissioning and Brokerage, whilst joint working with a range of providers, multi-agency services and voluntary partners.

Working closely with other LA Officers you will help develop intelligence on gaps in the market that lead to Independent Sector Placements being required and will work with local providers to address gaps. This will include inputting into service improvement projects, reviews of policies and processes.

You will sometimes require to represent the Council as an expert witness, alongside other lead officers, in formal Mediations and at the SEN and Disabilities Tribunal. This may require you to contribute to preparation of Case Statements, where appropriate.

**About you**

You will have the ability to work productively and influence other people at all levels, including senior staff in other agencies.

We will look to you to have an interest in and commitment to the services provided with a desire to contribute to the organisation’s continual improvement. This is a complex area of work so you must have a willingness to learn.

**Interviews will be held on 4th July 2023
