Matron for Emergency Medicine and Integrated Care

Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust is a large teaching hospital based on two sites in the heart of London, caring for people with a range of illnesses. We are seeking a talented individual with multiple skills and an appetite for delivering a first class nursing service to join our team on the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital site at 369 Fulham Road London. We are one of UKs most successful and progressive NHS Foundation Trusts. Working as one of the matrons for the Emergency and Integrated Care Division alongside your colleagues, the Divisional Director of Nursing and senior management teams, you will continue to improve the care and experience for patients and families.

The post holder will lead and be responsible for the delivery of high quality care and the patient experience in their areas through proactive clinical and professional leadership to nursing/ midwifery staff at all levels within their clinical area of responsibility. The post holder will need to ensure the delivery of high quality, evidence based, compassionate nursing or midwifery care, and that the workforce is managed efficiently and effectively.

The post holder will ensure ward sisters have adequate support to enable them to focus on their core responsibilities.

The post holder will contribute to the ongoing implementation of the Trusts nursing, midwifery and corporate objectives, developing the service and nursing/ midwifery roles to meet the evolving needs of patients and families.

The individual will undertake the key functions of the Matron Role ensuring the patient experience in wards/ departments is of the highest possible standard at all times with particular emphasis on the provision of dignified and compassionate care which is delivered in a safe and clean environment.

The post holder will work with the Divisional Director of Nursing and the Senior Management Team in developing and implementing a divisional strategy to achieve the Trusts objectives and ensure that effective governance arrangements are implemented and maintained.

Clinical
- To work in clinical practice for a minimum of 20 per cent of the time, providing clinical expertise and leadership to the team.
- To undertake daily ward rounds and obtain real time patient feedback; liaise with the person in charge of the ward/ Department to assess the environment with regards to cleanliness and clinical standards.
- To ensure the provision of safe, high quality care and treatment for all patients which is delivered within agreed standards, protocols and guidelines.
- To monitor performance across wards and departments against agreed nursing/ Midwifery and clinical indicators and to plan improvement and development in liaison with Ward and Department leads.
- To ensure that there is a robust approach to clinical incident reporting, investigation and action planning.
- To ensure that policies and procedures relating to infection prevention and control are followed and that practice is audited in line with the Trust approach.
- To ensure that policies and procedures relating to Medicines Management are followed and that practice is audited in line with the Trust approach.
- To ensure that standards of environmental cleaning are maintained in liaison with the Trust Estates and Facilities Service, and that corrective action is taken if this falls below defined standar
