Oxford, United Kingdom Oxford University Press Full time

**ABOUT US**

We are the world’s largest university press. We have both a worldwide reach and a personal understanding of local needs, partnering on the ground to adapt publications and resources to meet the individual needs of communities, societies, and countries. We partner with researchers, educators, and technology partners to stay ahead of the changing ways people around the world are accessing and sharing knowledge. With a presence in more than 50 countries and millions of customers around the world, an idea launched at OUP can have global impact.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**

This is an exciting opportunity to join the vibrant Research Editorial team in our Academic Division.

OUP’s Research Books acquisitions teams are working on a new multi-chapter digital-only publishing project bringing scholars from across the disciplines to address pressing societal topics. These may be challenges faced by humanity - environmental, cultural, political, psychological - where a body of researchers working in the area would benefit from scholarship set up for user journeys within and across chapters. The publications are aimed at researchers working in interdisciplinary areas, where relevant research content is often scattered among a range of journals and edited volumes. Content in some topics may also be relevant to organizations, policy-makers, and journalists.

As Senior Associate Editor in the team, you will contribute to content strategy and acquisitions in building and maintaining multi-author cross-disciplinary online publishing model, in close conjunction with Head of Acquisition and Acquisitions Editors, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based, proactive content acquisition in line with market, customer, and product need. This position will further the Press’s publishing and research services, enhance its scholarly reputation, and support the Content Strategy and Acquisitions team’s goal of positioning the Press successfully to respond to market changes.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Work with Acquisitions Editors and Head of Acquisition to deliver OUP’s global publishing strategy in relevant areas
- Work closely with Acquisitions Editors and Head of Acquisition to propose and develop new projects for multi-author cross-disciplinary online publishing model in line with the Press's mission, enhancing OUP's scholarly reputation.
- Propose new content according to academic quality, market appeal, and financial criteria, for internal and Delegate consideration.
- Build and nurture author networks/reviewer pools, including with OUP’s D&I goals in mind.
- Lead peer review process for online publishing project proposals across the publishing group and editorial team; may seek Delegate and internal approvals as needed.
- Communicate clear messaging about value of OUP offer (quality, impact, amplification, reach) to general editors, unit editors, advisory board members, authors and other stakeholders, and support programme to improve author experience and maintain OUP’s reputation among author communities.
- Guide project development of online publishing projects, working closely with Content Development.
- Collaborate with Content Development to improve publishing process and optimization.
- Develop data reporting and analysis and market research skills to identify insights and support acquisitions strategy.
- Contribute to content strategy and publishing group initiatives as needed, through project management, coordination, and/or analysis, as needed.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

**ABOUT YOU**

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

- Strong understanding of academic and scholarly publishing; some previous experience in publishing is highly desirable
- Experience working with authors and series editors
- Interest in building reporting/analysis skills and gaining proficiency in market research
- Ability to work with peers and cross-functionally in a productive manner (including within the matrix management structure of the Press) towards a common purpose
- Excellent written communication as well as strong interpersonal and verbal skills

**BENEFITS**

We care about work/life balance here at OUP. With this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday that rises with service, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure (3-days) and a 35-hour working week. We are open to discussing flexibility in respect to working patterns, dependent on role. We also have a great variety of active employee networks and societies.

We help make your money go further by contributing to your pension up to 12%, offering loans and savings schemes through our partnership with Salary Finance, in addition to travel to work schemes and access to a wide range of local discounts.
