Housing Support Officer

FSHA is a small, bespoke, Not-For-Profit Housing Association based in Walsall. Currently it manages 10 properties and 20 tenants. All tenants have a diagnosis of Learning Disability, and all properties are sourced from the Open Market.

The Housing Officer role within FSHA encompasses the usual requirements of a HO (managing properties, supporting tenants to maintain their tenancies etc) but also includes the responsibility to allocate tasks to Housing Support Workers, grow the company and manage the Monthly Profit and Loss Statement, which you will need to present as a spreadsheet every month.

The team is only four people, so the ability to work autonomously is very important. You will liaise regularly with Social Workers, Care Staff and the Local Authority Housing Benefit Dept so good written and verbal communication is essential.

We have partnered with Harmony Care, a specialist care provider, to provide bespoke Supported Living solutions for our tenants. This is funded through a combination of Social Care funding and Housing Benefit. All of our tenants attract Exempt Status with regard to Local Housing Allowance. It is core to our operating model that this status is maintained so you will need to become familiar with this model quickly. Additionally, the relationship with Harmony is an important one and needs to be developed.

In the past 4 years FSHA has been reviewed by the Local Authority twice, as part of their quality assurance measures. On both occasions we have been praised for the service we provide, and used as an example of good practice. We would like to build on this. As part of this role you will need to become familiar with the LA review process and understand the policies and procedures we need to implement as a consequence of that. You will need to be person-centred and see our tenants as the individuals they are - they are not just an income.

Once you are settled in the role you will be expected to grow the Association into neighbouring boroughs, especially Staffordshire and Wolverhampton. Your compensation will increase accordingly.

You must be a driver with access to your own vehicle. Experience in housing is preferable but not required. The same goes for experience of Learning Disabilities. Training will be provided as required.
