Production Assistant, Penguin Random House

London, United Kingdom The Random House Group Limited Full time

Do you have a can-do attitude, and relish the thought of being part of a busy team?

If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Penguin Random House Children’s Production department on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract.

**About the role**

We’re looking for a Production Assistant to help produce backlist, co-edition and special sales orders on the Puffin and Random House Children’s lists, covering vital new voices, modern juggernauts like Philip Pullman, and incredible classics from Roald Dahl to The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

This team helps bring amazing children’s books to life. The role will offer you the chance to work on a greater variety of products than almost any other production job in the industry, facing fresh challenges every day, in a team which is friendly, supportive, and focused on employee development. Whether you already have some experience or are just keen to learn, this is a great place to start to seriously build your production career.

You will work closely with our internal teams, but also with reprographic and print suppliers in the UK, Europe and Asia - controlling pricing, scheduling and ordering through to final delivery and invoicing. You will also provide general support to the rest of the team and assist with the department’s administration.

**What you’ll bring**

Although this is an entry level position and training will be given, a familiarity with and enthusiasm for children’s books will stand you in good stead.

On this occasion we’re looking for you to be:

- A solid communicator and able to treat people with patience
- Ready to learn to negotiate both pricing and schedules
- Organised, detail-oriented, and driven to keep colleagues and suppliers on track
- Able to self-motivate and numerate as you’ll be prioritising a busy inbox, building schedules, and calculating percentages

**How to apply**

**Our hybrid working approach**

PRH is currently experimenting with hybrid working and involving colleagues across the business to shape our future ways of working. The needs of our teams and individuals are different, so we’re not taking a one-size-fits-all approach. The exact balance of office to remote working will depend on the nature of your role and team needs, and we are open to discussing this through the recruitment process.

**What you can expect from us**:
**Salary**: You'll start on £26,500. This will increase by £1,000 on your 1-year anniversary with us (if this role is extended) to reflect your growing contribution.

Our employees are the heart of our business. We have a range of benefits to reflect our commitment to our employees, some of which are:

- 27 days paid holiday entitlement in year one (plus bank holidays), increasing a day each year up to 30 days
- Medical cover
- Life assurance
- Cycle to Work scheme
- Discounted gym membership
- Generous pension scheme
- Summer working hours (role dependent)
- Volunteering policy and charity matching
- Employee Assistance programme
- Mentoring programme
- Extended gender neutral parental leave
- Access to books and eBooks across Penguin Random House UK
- Each site has trained mental health first aiders
- We plant a tree for every new employee to our business

**Our creativity is inspired by different perspectives, so we want our culture to be one of belonging, where everyone feels welcome and where differences are celebrated.**

Please note, we are not able to accept agency CVs for this role. Any CVs sent speculatively will not be eligible for a fee.
