The British Museum is seeking a Finance Assistant to play an integral part within the Data function of the Finance Department in a world-renowned setting and the most popular tourist attraction in the UK. The role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual seeking to develop their career in Finance; and utilise their experience of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and the Museum’s E-commerce Systems.

In this pivotal role, you will ensure that financial data from the bank accounts, ticketing, membership and E-commerce systems are coded into the finance systems accurately, swiftly and in line with month-end deadlines.

**Key areas of responsibility**:

- Manage the departmental inbox and act as Data team’s first point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure that all income related to BMImages is processed correctly treated appropriately for VAT purposes.
- Take ownership of the posting transactional data from the Museum’s bank accounts; working with internal departments and external stakeholders to identify income and ensure that it is correctly allocated.
- Support the Museum’s E-commerce team in ensuring that all E-commerce income is correctly allocated and received, investigating discrepancies and liaising with Payment Service Providers.
- Work closely with the Museum’s Box Office, Development and Membership teams to ensure that income is treated and coded correctly.
- Take ownership of a variety of bank and balance sheet account month-end reconciliations; investigating unposted items and posting journals to ensure data consistency.
- Develop strong relationships with various BM departments plus external service providers.

**About you**:
To undertake the role, you will need strong problem-solving skills and be able to respond to system issues, a wide variety of queries and to aid in creating robust department procedures.

You must be IT literate with advanced Excel skills with experience of working with large volumes of transactional data, maintaining journal templates and the use of formulae. You must be able to work independently within a team, taking ownership of your workload and working towards the team’s KPIs.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who can work well with others and take on other work in the department during times of heavy workload or staff absence. With excellent verbal and written communication skills, you will be able to build strong working relationships within the Museum and with related 3rd parties.
