This is a very new and exciting Macmillan AHP post. It is an opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual who wants to develop knowledge and skills in assessment and treatment of communication/ Voice and swallowing disorders related to Head and Neck Cancer. Experience working in the field of Head & Neck Cancer is desirable, however, not essential and we will consider skill development. As this is a fixed-term post we would also consider offering this as a secondment opportunity. Please speak to your current line manager to seek permission to be released on secondment.

The post holder will work in a small team alongside the Principal SLT (0.4 wte) and 2 Specialist SLTs (1 wte) based at Airedale General Hospital. The Adult Speech & Language Therapy Team within Airedale NHS Foundation Trust works with adults who have a range of acquired and long term conditions in both acute and community settings.
- Manage and prioritise a caseload within the defined clinical pathway or delegated by clinicians
- Independently undertake assessments and interventions relevant to specific clinical pathways
- Evaluate programmes and patient’s progression making minor alterations in consultation with the therapist
- Support therapist with complex cases as required
- Work in partnership with patients, carers, the multi-disciplinary team and wider statutory, private and voluntary sector services.
- Participate in activities to improve the service
- Provide support to other team members and students
- Work flexibly according to patient and service needs
- Participate in data collection for our outcome database, research and audit projects.

Our friendly and supportive SLT department comprises a team of 13 SLTs and SLTAs with a strong commitment to supporting the CPD of our therapists. Clinical support is available through regular clinical meetings, team meetings and peer review. As an integrated service SLT have exceptionally close working relationships with dietitians and clinical nurse specialists and the wider AHP workforce.

Bradford/Airedale Head and Neck MDT manages a large and complex caseload and offers major surgery with oncology treatment delivered by St James University Hospital in Leeds. The post holder will be expected to work very closely with the Bradford and Leeds Head and Neck MDTs and this may necessitate travel to both sites and community visits.
This post requires a committed individual to deliver care to inpatients, community patients as well as supporting out-patient clinics, such as the combined H&N AHP clinic.
