An opportunity has arisen for a part-time, 12-month secondment to the Safeguarding Adults team as a Band 6 Safeguarding Adults Practitioner. The post is 23hrs per week (0.61wte) working with an experienced team to ensure that all staff fulfil their duty to support people at risk and to prevent harm.

The key responsibilities of the postholder will be to support and advice staff on adult safeguarding concerns/alerts and to work alongside multi-professional partners across Bradford District; North Yorkshire and East Lancashire in accordance with the West Yorkshire and Partners Multi Agency Policy and Procedures for Safeguarding Adults.

- Promote effective responses to harm
- Use learning to improve prevention of harm and support protection of people at risk
- Make safeguarding personal

Safeguarding is everyone’s business and as such the postholder will work across the trust supporting safeguarding education, training and practice with all staff, patients and visitors.

Patient Safety & Quality Improvement
- To support education and training of frontline health professionals in relation to protection of adults at risk, Mental Capacity Act (2005) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (2007) promoting good practice and ensuring all staff are aware of their responsibilities in all settings.
- To support and advise staff on issues related to Safeguarding Adults, including participation in safeguarding planning meetings, family meetings etc as relevant.
- To support people in escalating safeguarding concerns appropriately, whilst maintaining a focus on making safeguarding personal and safety.
- To participate in Operational Group Meetings in order to support ongoing development of best practice and positive practice in relation to Safeguarding Adults, Mental Capacity Assessments, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the proposed Liberty Protection Safeguards.
- To work closely with other designated professionals and multiagency teams to support all activities necessary for the trust to discharge its duty with regard to adult safeguarding.
- Ensure the person(s) at risk and their families/carers are actively involved in decisions affecting their care and wellbeing, making safeguarding personal.
- Ensure timely and appropriate use of advocacy services to support people in making their own decisions.

Service Improvement
- Participate in safeguarding supervision as reflected in Intercollegiate Document for Safeguarding Adults.
- Contribute to education and training design and delivery
- Support quality improvements through learning from adverse incidents and good practice examples to support best practice

Co-ordination and Communication
- Liaise with staff on safeguarding adult issues providing specialist advice and information to ensure consistency across the organisation
- Continually develop and support a culture of understanding and acceptance of personal responsibility for safeguarding adults.
- Support dissemination of learning from safeguarding incidents and inform development of policies and processes as necessary.

Audit, Monitoring and Evaluation
- To assist with audit, monitoring analysis and evaluation of data/information relating to safeguarding adults systems and services in order to improve the quality and clinical effectiveness of care for people at risk and their families/carers.
- Support investigations into concerns/complaints relating to safeguarding adults as delegated by the Lead Professional for Safeguarding Adults.
- Participate in training delivery and review to ensure high standards of practice are maintained reflecting evidence-based practice.
- Support production of both internal and external reports as necessary.

Management
- Act as a visible, effective role model for safeguarding adults
- Maintain positive working relationships through effective communication with all people using appropriate formats.
- Work independently under indirect supervision to promote effective safeguarding adults practice.
