The Hand Unit at St Georges Hospital is now well established and rapidly expanding. We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to work with the current staff in the coordination and administrative management of pathways of elective and trauma patients attending the unit.

The post holder will need to be able to work well under pressure and cope with conflicting demands. They will need to have excellent organisational, communication and IT skills. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and spreadsheets is essential. They must be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively, work well as part of a team as well as on own initiative.

We are looking for someone with a flexible approach and a professional attitude as they will be working closely with multidisciplinary team members and the public. They will regularly be the first point of contact for patients attending the unit and their behaviour should reflect the high standard of Trust’s values.

Providing administrative and clinical support in the Hand Unit including booking appointments, day case trauma surgeries and co-ordinating clinic reception as well as dealing with face-to-face and telephone enquiries from patients’. Assisting the Hand Unit manager and Trauma Coordinator with co-ordinating day case trauma pathways for the Hand Unit so the appropriate patient is scheduled on the appropriate theatre lists and their post-operative appointments are booked in a timely manner.

Supporting Hand Unit secretary with administrative duties and completing clinic letter within specified targets. Additionally, support may also be extended to other plastic surgery outpatient clinics if required.

The post holder will be expected to work autonomously within the scope of the role and be a team player.

As well as acute hospital services, they provide a wide variety of specialist care and a full range of community services to patients of all ages following integration with Community Services Wandsworth in 2010.

St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 1.3 million across southwest London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling around 3.5 million people.

The trust also provides care for patients from a larger catchment area in southeast England, for specialties such as complex pelvic trauma. Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases. The trust also provides a nationwide state-of-the-art endoscopy training centre.
