About Us: The Hand Engravers Association of Great Britain is a charitable organisation that promotes and preserves the skills of hand engraving. We are a membership organisation with around 120 members, and we work to achieve our objectives through education, exhibitions, events, and advocacy.

The Role: We are seeking a Director to lead our organisational and strategic management. The successful candidate will work with our Board of Trustees, Administration Manager, and key stakeholders to realise our charitable and organisational objectives. An enthusiasm for heritage crafts is essential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Development:
    • Develop a three-year plan with the Board of Trustees
    • Long-term planning and annual budget setting in collaboration with the Board
    • Identify, respond, and pursue opportunities for partnerships
    • Develop initiatives and projects to achieve our objectives
  • Income Generation:
    • Develop an annual fundraising strategy
    • Draft and send grant applications
    • Liaise with existing grant providers
    • Cultivate and convert prospects
    • Draft and publish Patron Packs
  • Governance:
    • Support the work of the Board of Trustees
    • Ensure charity compliance with the Charities Commission
    • Prepare agendas, papers, and minutes for Board meetings
    • Attend and present a Director's Report at each Board meeting
  • Membership:
    • Help maintain and increase membership numbers
    • Coordinate the membership sub-committee
  • Exhibitions, Events, and Project Management:
    • Lead planning, costing, and managing events and exhibitions
    • Identify and recruit speakers and demonstrators
    • Coordinate call for entries for exhibitions
    • Locate and secure venues
  • Training and Courses:
    • Structure and design content for new courses
    • Identify and book course venues, tutors, and partners
  • Communications and Marketing:
    • Develop a new Social Media strategy
    • Update the website on a regular basis
  • Advocacy and Networking:
    • Represent the Hand Engravers Association as appropriate
    • Make public announcements and presentations at events and online
    • Attend events and network on behalf of the charity
