This role is starting 11th Dec, working Mon to Fri 35 hours a week, initially for a 3 month contract that is likely to be extended.

Pay Rate is £21.96 p/h PAYE

This is an exciting time to join Lewisham Children & Young Peoples Service and make a significant contribution to meeting the needs of our Looked After Children and Young People.

In response to the increased complexity of identifying and securing quality matched placements, we have introduced two new Senior Placement Officer roles to support the operational delivery of the Children Placements Service.

The Service is pivotal for all our children coming into care, and those children who change placement during their care journey, overseeing the brokerage of all placements with external placement providers: independent fostering agencies, registered children's home, and supported accommodation.

It is also the first point of contact to access internal foster care placements.

As part of our commitment to achieve the best outcomes for our Looked After Children, Lewisham have recently joined the Commissioning Alliance. All team members will have the opportunity to collaborate with Local Authority peers and access training available through the partnership.

The work of the team is busy, and we require two Senior Placement Officers who will be responsible for running an effective duty system. They will oversee the daily operations of the service, to respond to planned and emergency placement requests, ensuring Placement Officers are positioned to be responsive and proactive in leading placement searches. They will provide the daily oversight of Placement Officers work, to ensure that an effective service is delivered, giving our children and young people an experience of connection, and belonging in their care placement.

The Senior Placement Officers will also carry a small caseload of more complex placement searches, and are expected to develop and maintain relationships with a range of external providers, and work closely with managers and social workers in the fostering service to maximize in house placement opportunities.

**About you**

We are seeking two suitably experienced professionals with recent experience of working in a placements / procurement team, either adults or children, and have some experience of staff supervision, or can demonstrate proven transferable supervisory skills to manage the daily operations of the service.

You will have an excellent understanding of safeguarding and be a strong advocate for promoting care placements which meet the holistic needs and lived experiences of Looked After Children and Young People. You will have a good understanding of relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, and care planning.

Good communication and influencing skills are essential to lead placement negotiations with internal and external stakeholders.

You will work closely with the Fostering colleagues, and partners in education, health, and commissioning, helping to shape and deliver good wrap around services for children’s placements, and make sure arrangements for the shared funding of placements is in place.
