Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator

An opportunity has arisen to join the team of midwives responsible for overseeing the National antenatal and newborn screening programmes at Sherwood Forest Hospitals. The screening team is well established and dedicated to ensuring the women and babies receive the best of care.
The midwife will be joint lead for implementing best practice across the screening programmes, working alongside midwifery, support worker, obstetric and paediatric consultant colleagues and outside agencies. You will provide professional leadership and expert advice. The post will be varied with a mixture of office based work and clinical care. There will be a requirement to undertake teaching, developing and implementing new care pathways following national recommendation, failsafe work, report writing and general day to day office duties. Clinically you will be required to see women who have positive results across the antenatal programmes and be responsible for arranging their care pathways. You will be required to care for and make arrangements for women opting to end their pregnancy. As a person you will need to be highly organised and non-judgemental and show a caring approach to women and babies.
Provide expert knowledge as a clinical educator in Screening
To lead and advise the clinical team in all aspects of Screening
To support mothers and their families in their choice of screening and its outcomes.
To promote a framework which supports National Programme Standards in relation to Screening implementing policies and procedures.
Audit local practice in relation to national standards

To ensure the provision and continued effectiveness of a women and baby centred antenatal and newborn screening and diagnosis programme for the Trust.
In collaboration with clinical colleagues, laboratory staff and personnel from within the regional and national screening agencies, to lead and co-ordinate the development and implementation of government initiatives/services relating to antenatal and newborn screening within the maternity service.
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist programmes of evidenced based care, contributing to the provision of midwifery care to women undergoing screening, or those with high-risk pregnancies.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the educational needs of staff regarding all screening procedures are delivered to a high standard and will provide specialist education & training to others across multi-disciplinary teams
To provide expert advice and support for all women, families and health care professionals involved in screening and diagnostic programmes.
To develop and review local guidelines reflecting the national guidelines for antenatal and newborn screening
To act as clinical and educational role model.
To ensure that midwifery practice is evidence based and that guidelines and procedures are implemented.
Establish, co-ordinate and facilitate informal training programmes
The post holder has no direct budgetary responsibility but a duty to ensure that resources are appropriately managed
Support and feed in appropriately to the Clinical Governance framework
Establish, motivate and develop the team, identifying individuals needs and setting objectives that are realistically achievable
Participate in interviewing and selection of new staff.
Represents the Trust at external forums and will be expected to behave in an appropriate manner.
Clinical Care
Provide clinical support within Trust escalation Policy if required
