**About us**:
The Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences is a world-leading group that brings together expertise across the clinical and basic science spectrum of the physiology and pathology of human movement and movement disorders. The Department incorporates groups from the Queen Square and Royal Free campuses of the Institute and includes the Reta Lila Weston Institute and the Movement Disorders Centre.

The Department offers excellent training in research for clinical and non-clinical students wishing to obtain higher degrees. We have excellent well-funded and modern multidisciplinary facilities for studying cellular and animal models, human volunteers, and patients with neurological disorders.

**About the role**:
We are recruiting a Clinical Research Fellow to work on a study aiming to understand the pathogenesis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

This project is based on the discovery that a novel form of threshold tracking transcranial magnetic stimulation (TT-TMS) is able to identify patients with lesions of the motor cortex prior to the development of clinical signs of cortical lesions. The project will also try to repurpose medications to rectify these abnormalities and will involve coordinating with patients and healthy volunteers, running the research assessments (transcranial magnetic stimulation, motor unit estimation techniques, inter-muscle and EEG-muscle coherence data acquisition and analysis).

You will work as part of a larger team at the Departments of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences and Clinical Neurophysiology of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery under the supervision of Professor Martin Koltzenburg. Training in advanced clinical neurophysiology techniques and experimental medicine will be provided.

The post is available immediately and funded by a grant from the Motor Neuron Disease Association (MNDA) for 21 months in the first instance.

A full job description and person specification for this role can be accessed below.

**About you**:
You will be a clinician or a scientist with experience in human neurophysiology and an interest in clinical neurophysiology, neuromuscular diseases and insight into motor control. You will also be a Registered Medical Practitioner with a license to practice in the UK, have excellent research skills, be proactive in running the studies, and be capable of working collaboratively.

**What we offer**:
The role is offered with salary in the range of £43,619 - £67,652 per annum inclusive of London Allowance, on the CL, JDPS, or StR scale, dependent on stage of clinical training.
