Peer Mediation National Coordinator

London, United Kingdom Quakers Full time

Job description

We want every school in Britain to have a team of peer mediators ready and able to help resolve conflict. We know from Quaker work in schools that children and young people can be effective peacemakers. Some schools already have thriving peer mediation schemes, supported by expert organisations.

But many schools do not have such schemes, and their students do not have the same opportunity to be peacemakers. This new post will help us change that. By engaging with schools directly, delivering capacity-building training, offering advice and guidance, and by working with some amazing partners, we can strengthen the pathway for children and young people to become peer mediators.

The Peer Mediation National Coordinator will work in our small yet committed Peace Education team towards Quakers’ goal to embed peace education in British schools. Working closely with partners like the Civil Mediation Council, the Coordinator will focus on building national capacity for youth-led peace-making in the form of peer mediation.

If you have experience in education and conflict resolution, with a commitment to children’s rights and peace, we encourage you to apply.

**Background**

Funded by the Sir James Reckitt Charitable Trust, this new role has sprung from the integration of peer mediation into the Civil Mediation Council (CMC) and the opportunities that flow from this. The role is informed by the Quaker vision laid out in Peace at the heart: a relational approach to education in British schools.

This is a part-time (28 hours per week), fixed-term role for one year. You will be based at our offices in Leeds (LS2) or London (NW1), or at home if you live outside London. London-based staff can work at home some of the time by agreement.

Alongside the opportunity to equip a new generation of peacemakers, we offer a generous benefits package.

**Closing date: 9am on 19 June 2023**
**Interviews: Held in person in London on 28 June 2023
