**Job summary**:
The Homeland Security Group (HSG) unites capabilities and expertise to deliver better outcomes from the UK’s response to the most serious domestic threats - Terrorism, Cyber, State Threats and Economic Crime. The group will strengthen coordination and collective focus across a range of growing and overlapping threats, whilst remaining consistent with existing strategies. Working with partners, HSG will foster more transparent and sustainable collaboration between national security, law enforcement and other relevant communities to enhance capabilities and leverage our response to threats.

As part of the Home Office, the role of the Homeland Security Group is to:

- Support the Home Secretary to develop and implement strategies to keep our people and interests safe and secure
- Build HMG capabilities to reduce national security risk
- Reduce volume of, and harm from, economic crime, particularly for the most vulnerable.
- Work in partnership with public and private sectors in the UK and overseas to deliver better outcomes.
- Ensure legitimate economic growth and prosperity.

**Job description**:
The Joint Extremism Unit (JEXU) is the strategic centre for all counter-terrorism work with offenders in England and Wales. Sitting within the Home Office’s Prevent Directorate and HMPPS’s Directorate of Security, we have oversight of CT delivery across the offender management journey. We work closely with operational staff, Police, partners, and the broader CT system to identify, manage and reduce terrorism risk in this sector.

This is a stretching post, providing an exciting opportunity to help develop JEXU’s strategy during a period of significant change. The post-holder’s work will support significant operational improvements in the fight against terrorism.

Due to business requirements this post is full-time only.

**Person specification**:
The role will report to the SEO Head of Strategy in the Joint Extremism Unit. The post-holder will:

- Support the development of a counter terrorism strategy that identifies successes and gaps in current delivery and provides a shared vision for the future
- Develop and implement the unit's international strategy, facilitating productive engagements with overseas partners
- Manage the relationship with the unit’s independent advisory group and ensure its members’ advice is sought as appropriate
- Improve the unit’s tracking and oversight of recommendations and commitments resulting from reviews and inquiries
- Provide high quality briefing and papers to ministers, senior officials and governance boards in a timely manner
- Develop Spending Review bids to ensure priority CT work in the sector is identified and adequately funded
- Play a supporting HQ role in the event of a critical incident
- Have the ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- Have the ability to process and distil large volumes of information, tailoring to the audience as needed
- Have the ability to identify strategic objectives and weigh the pros and cons of different ways of meeting them
- Have strong time management skills
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
