About Homeland Security

The Homeland Security Group (HSG) unites capabilities and expertise to deliver better outcomes from the UK’s response to the most serious domestic threats - Terrorism, Cyber, State Threats and Economic Crime. The group will strengthen coordination and collective focus across a range of growing and overlapping threats, whilst remaining consistent with existing strategies. Working with partners, HSG will foster more transparent and sustainable collaboration between national security, law enforcement and other relevant communities to enhance capabilities and leverage our response to threats.

As part of the Home Office, the role of the Homeland Security Group is to:

- Support the Home Secretary to develop and implement strategies to keep our people and interests safe and secure
- Build HMG capabilities to reduce national security risk
- Reduce volume of, and harm from, economic crime, particularly for the most vulnerable
- Work in partnership with public and private sectors in the UK and overseas to deliver better outcomes
- Ensure legitimate economic growth and prosperity

The Protect, Prepare, CBRNE and Science and Technology (PPCS) directorate is a part of the Homeland Security mission in the Home Office, which is a key part of the national security community. In line with our directorate’s values, we will represent the diversity of modern Britain in thought and outlook, delivering better outcomes in keeping our country safe and our citizens secure. We will embed diversity and inclusion in everything we do and build a positive and safe environment for staff to bring their whole selves to work, to thrive and achieve their full potential.

PPCS has a core set of cultural values that were developed by its staff and are central to its approach to business:

- People: Courage, Inclusion, Compassion, Respect
- Public Service: Resilience, Tenacity, Expertise, Composure
- Collaboration: Integrity, Enthusiasm, Openness, Fairness

PPCS is proactive in offering suitable workplace adjustments, flexible working arrangements and job shares, to ensure anyone, no matter their personal requirements can join our great team

**Job description**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Radiological and Nuclear (RN) policy team in the RN Unit, which sits within PPCS. The RN Unit supports the government’s counter terrorism strategy by providing RN policy and strategic portfolio management alongside coherent systems and capabilities. Our vision is to provide a world leading system that mitigates the risk and impact of an RN attack on the UK.

This role will work closely with others from across government and beyond to plan for and mitigate the impact of catastrophic risks from the National Security Risk Assessment and will give the post-holder first-hand experience of emergency response planning. The role holder will be reporting to an SEO in wider team of 10. Current Home Office policy is hybrid working.

Due to business requirements this post is full time only.

**Person specification**:
We are seeking an HEO policy advisor to join the emergency response policy team within the Radiological and Nuclear (RN) Unit.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to drive HMG policy on some of the most significant counter-terrorism risks facing the UK, and a high-priority area for Ministers and seniors. The team delivers multi-million-pound projects and provides many development opportunities, both structured and through experience and exposure. You will gain first-hand experience of working at the heart of the HMG agenda on counter-terrorism and nuclear security focused on preventing Radiological and Nuclear threats occurring, defeating them should they arise and then collecting and analysing evidence to support forensic investigations. This particular role in the policy team will be focussing on delivering and implementing the emergency response programme: ensuring there is a capability in place to support the response in the event of an RN National Security risk materialising.

This role requires an aptitude for project delivery, policy and strategy. Excellent communication and influencing skills, and an ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships with a wide range of partners will be vital. It requires substantial collaboration and joint working with colleagues across government, operatio
