**Job description**:

- This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communicator to join the External Affairs team. The team is fast-paced, supportive and fun. We work highly collaboratively across all communications disciplines, with post holders given the opportunity to lead communications for and build knowledge of many policy areas. You will gain exposure to the whole Ministerial team.

- As a member of the External Affairs team, your responsibilities will include:
- Plan, co-ordinate and lead on high quality media and digital events, visits and engagements for Ministers, in order to deliver policy and communication objectives.
- Crafting Ministers’ visits and engagement plans, ensuring buy-in from Special Advisers, Private Office, policy and communications colleagues. Drafting ministerial submissions and briefings to support visit and stakeholder engagement plans.
- Work in a team and individually to identify, recce venues ahead of Ministerial visits
- Travel with Ministers to ensure that they are well supported and briefed, that logistics are effectively executed, and risks mitigated.
- Work closely with Ministers, Special Advisors, Private Office and policy colleagues from within the Department and across government.
- Manage key stakeholders from a variety of sectors across industry to help support future engagement opportunities.
- Support the Head of External Affairs in developing a strategic programme of events that is well integrated with Ministerial policy priorities

**Skills and Experience**

You will need to be able to work flexible across different communication and policy priorities to support colleagues during busy periods and as Government priorities shift.

You will have experience working across multiple communications disciplines, including a good sense of what makes an eye-catching visit with engaging visuals that work on digital and broadcast media.

You will need excellent political judgement to spot communications opportunities and risks, as well as a sharp news sense, being alert to the wider government agenda and vision.

You must have the ability to quickly build strong relationships, and the confidence to engage directly with senior colleagues, stakeholders and Ministers.
