**Job summary**:
This role sits within the External Engagement (EE) team in the Advocacy Directorate. The EE team leads the development and delivery of engagements and engagement strategy. It manages some of the Department’s core engagement mechanisms and delivers bespoke engagement activity. Our work is to understand what external stakeholders’ positions are to support the department’s work for example, on trade policy development and export and investment, as well as to secure support and advocacy for DBT’s wider programme of work. As engagement with external stakeholders is a ministerial priority, this role involves regular interaction with ministerial Private Offices and significant exposure to senior civil servants

The team works flexibly, you will be expected to work across a broad portfolio of the teams work streams - as well as your regular responsibilities, according to Departmental priorities. You could for example be asked to support on Ministerial roundtables, meetings with CEOs of multinational companies, or sourcing expert external advice on challenging policy issues.

This is a pivotal role, requiring a highly motivated individual who has the skills to deliver under pressure and adapt to changing priorities. No specific qualifications are required but a can-do attitude is essential There will be a strong external focus requiring a degree of political awareness and understanding of stakeholder landscape
- (who are the major stakeholders for the department, what are their key interest & concerns etc.)A proactive approach and ability to manage relationships and balance pressures from internal and external stakeholders will be essential.

**Job description**:
Key roles and responsibilities:
Aspects of the roles stated below many alter as the team shifts to a new model of engagement.
- Assisting DBT colleagues in the design and delivery of engagement opportunities, including Ministerial roundtables with high profile organisations in support of the Government’s business and trade policy objectives.
- Leading and/or supporting discrete projects to support establishment and bedding in of a new model of engagement.
- Supporting central co-ordination and delivery of DBT's formal and informal stakeholder engagement forums.
- Working collaboratively to develop content, events and processes that meet the needs of Ministers, stakeholders, and officials.
- Developing and maintaining a central bank of tools and guidance to support best practice on stakeholder engagement within the team and across DBT.
- Working collaboratively with teams across DBT to understand and meet their stakeholder engagement needs and where relevant identifying opportunities for improving the delivery process and effectiveness of engagement across Department.
- Maintaining an up-to-date picture of the department’s policy priorities and concerns of key stakeholders.
- Establishing contacts with and supporting management of some of the team’s key relationships with external partners including businesses, civil society groups and trade unions and senior internal stakeholders.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DBT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

**Essential Criteria**
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience of working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Experience of working with, and influencing, senior officials or private sector executives.
- Ability to deliver and balance several projects/work-streams simultaneously.
- Ability to work autonomously, and to deliver work-streams in a timely fashion.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience of stakeholder management and communications.
