The RDG has for several years been advocating for structural reform of the rail industry. Earlier in 2021, we welcomed the white paper as a transformational moment for the industry. We are actively supporting and engaging in the reform of the industry and are clear that there will be some changes as to where in the long term, some functions of the important work we do is carried out. This is a once in a generational moment for the industry and the roles listed below are opportunities which will play an important part in delivering for customers and against the Government’s long term vision for the sector. It is an exciting time to help shape and evolve a sector which is vital to support the long term prosperity of the nation as we look to recovery.

Salary scale: £54,519 - £72,100 per annum

What is the purpose of this job?

To succeed, the post holder will need to influence a broad range of stakeholders, facing situations where they are expected to listen to and interpret a wide range of views and concerns, accurately defining any issues, and then working with colleagues to identify and implement credible solutions.

What can I expect to do in this job?
- Working with the Director and others in the CEO Office to shape a strategic approach to engagement with RDG’s members
- Developing and delivering a programme with members in partnership with the Executive team and other senior colleagues
- Developing and delivering a member communications strategy which is aligned with RDG’s wider external and internal communications strategies
- Working with the Director of Industry Operations to deliver value adding engagement with the Managing Directors of Train Operating Companies
- Providing insight and support for the Executive team and other senior colleagues on RDG’s members and their views.

What experience, skills and knowledge do I need?
- Essential
- Excellent influencing and relationship-building skills, including the ability to influence and work sensitively with senior colleagues.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders
- Ability to build and manage networks of internal colleagues to effectively deliver activity outside of their core role
- Ability to think strategically and plan engagement & communications activity
- An excellent understanding of the rail industry, the issues affecting it and the concerns and roles of the different organisations within it
- Excellent analytical skills, and oral and written communication skills, including the ability to think creatively and strategically
- A keen ability to prioritise work in a pressurised environment and work with mínimal supervision to meet deadlines
- Desirable
- A good understanding of change management skills and programmes and how they can help deliver successful strategies
- Experience of line management
