Executive Assistant/chief-of-staff for An
7 months ago
Hi there,
My name’s Edward. I’m looking for someone _usually capable_, who has grace and poise in being able to work on many different things at once - and who has a broad range of interests to power doing so.
If you’re:
- At a crossroads in your life, wondering what to do next;
- Feeling like you have a lot to give, but aren’t presently sure how to harness this;
- Excited at the prospect of joining a thriving team (or _several_);
- Seeking an opportunity to prove yourself;
This could be a dream opportunity for you.
I’m looking for someone who would relish helping an ambitious and fast-moving entrepreneur organise their life, stay on track, and be crucial ballast to help achieve what’s being done. Someone committed to the art of assisting - and who aspires to growth in the direction of ever-more responsibility in the role of an Executive Assistant/chief-of-staff.
Things I’m working on right now:
1) A new diplomatic-journalistic outlet called “Listening to the Other Side”:.
2) In 2017, aged 24, I co-founded an online course publishing house called Course Concierge:. This continues to run successfully today. We’re planning a spin-out with Paul Davids, the most followed guitar teacher on all of YouTube.
3) Altitude Climbing: - such a spin-out for bouldering/rock climbing, with YouTube sensation Magnus Midtbø.
4) I’m helping a very clear-thinking twenty-something advisor start a legal firm.
5) And a very talented 23-year-old London-based designer get her brand off the ground.
I need a right-hand person who can assist in driving these forward.
Keith Rabois, who ran operations for Paypal, LinkedIn, and Square, notes the difference between “a barrel” and “ammunition” in an organisation: (clip for two minutes). Here, I need somebody who is most definitely a barrel.
Someone very accomplished I was just in contact with noted of their chief-of-staff:
- “[Name] played a pivotal role over the last five years in helping me manage my responsibilities. When people asked how we accomplished so much with so few people, I would say that she was _**my army of one**_She offered skillful suggestions, helped verify important details, and has kept our team organised every step of the way.”_
I’m in need of “an army of one”.
**Duties will include**:
- Itinerary planning and travel management. The last trip I took to the US, I changed my itinerary four times mid-trip. This is not atypical. I need someone okay with this - and who can help ensure things run to schedule.
- Gift buying for team members, and important people in my life, and helping plan fun weekend activities.
In the past few weeks, I have had a 100-message thread perfecting the design of an origami crane (with an origami designer) to gift to advisors of the new diplomatic outfit. I need somebody in this role onboard with such meticulousness.
- Deep research in aid of new companies. Don’t worry if you haven’t done it before. You just need to be inquisitive, a fast reader, and able to assemble writing.
- Someone with supreme attention to detail and who, even in their own private WhatsApp messages, upholds near-flawless grammar.
- If I ask you to do something you’ve never done before, like set up a landing page with ConvertKit, or a product page on Shopify, you will go on and figure it out with little to no instruction.
You need to be relentlessly resourceful in overcoming obstacles. When people are telling you “No, this can’t be done”, you - through a mix of creative thinking, perseverance, and charm - find a way to make it happen. Initiative, and not giving in. You can effectively bend the clock and get 26 hours of activity into 24.
I’m not yet sure if this role is best entitled “Executive Assistant” or “Chief of Staff”. Perhaps something in-between.
- You can work your own hours. (This is not a conventional 9-5.)
- I’m based in London - just by Charing Cross. But you can do a lot of this remotely/at home. (All five companies are presently remote.) But I do need someone who can come into central London a few times a week. Trying to open new bank accounts etc with a remote assistant has proven nightmarish.
- The position will start at ~20 hours per week, and pay will be set at a competitive rate. Within three-six months, the role ought to be nearer full-time.
Like any assistant position, this will be a role of deep insight, and it’s one I will be selecting for carefully.
Thank you for considering the position. If you’re feeling on the fence about applying: please do. Best of luck, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Edward.
**Job Type**: Part-time
**Salary**: £25.00-£30.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 20 per week
**Benefits**:
- Work from home
Work Location: Hybrid remote in London
