A dynamic and creative leader is required for the post of Head of English. You will oversee provision across Outwood Academy Freeston. You will ensure high standards of teaching and learning are delivered, resources are used efficiently and effectively, and the curriculum is managed and developed in accordance with the Trust and school policy. You will support with annual departmental plans, appraisals and promote the ethos of teamwork and establish a culture of sharing good practice.
You will need the ability to lead and manage people and have good decision-making skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others. You will also have the leadership experience and the ability to challenge individuals within your team whilst supporting them to achieve outstanding results.
You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’.
We are committed to delivering the best possible English curriculum and the Head of Department will be working strategically with Directors of English, a network of outstanding Heads of English and Senior Leaders across the Family of Schools.
At GCSE, we teach Eduqas WJEC specifications in both English Language and English Literature. Students are prepared well for the rigours of their GCSE courses and beyond.
The department consists of 9 teachers. The team are both experienced and supportive. The department has a collaborative culture and plans and lessons are shared. Exam results in the department are consistently amongst the best in the school. Students perform well.

Outwood Academy Freeston became part of the Outwood Grange Academies Trust on 1st May 2018. The Academy is in the heart of Normanton, which is a small town and part of the City of Wakefield.
It is a mixed school for both girls and boys ages 11-16. We are an increasingly popular choice of secondary school for families in the local area.
