Gi Cancer Pathway Co-ordinator, Band 5

- This position is an integral part in the re-design and overall improvement of the GI cancer pathways in line with the national timed pathways.
- The post holder will ensure that the pathway is co-ordinated efficiently and effectively, and that patient pathways are actively tracked to meet cancer waiting times standards in line with the national timed pathway
- Contribute to the on-going development of the GI diagnostic pathways in relation to the drive to implement the national timed pathway
- To co-ordinate the patient GI cancer pathway for the Trust, and have highly functioning planning and organisation skills
- Be responsible for all administrative tasks involving in managing GI patient pathways
- Be responsible for day to day management, organisation and delegation of relevant tasks and roles to others as required in relation to the cancer pathways
- Be responsible for data capture and data entry for Cancer Alliance and internal Cancer Services purposes

Performance
To assist AGM/DGM in identifying potential breaches, analysing confirmed breaches and escalating issues where necessary to the General Manager and/or Head of Service
Assisting the MDT, Head of Service and General Manager in analysing breaches
To work closely with the lead nurse specialists and cancer clinical leads in the management of the clinical pathway.
General
Working in a team environment to provide appropriate support/advice to other secretarial/clerical staff as necessary
Exercise independent judgement and initiative when problems arise, taking the necessary actions to resolve the problems or referring to the appropriate person
To liaise with colleagues, other departments or organisations to ensure that the patient's pathway decisions are actioned
Demonstrate effective management of time and resources
To respect confidentiality on any matter concerning a patient arising during the course of duty and not to disclose such information at any time to unauthorised persons
To promote equal opportunities for staff and patients in accordance with the Trusts policies
To adhere to Trust policies
To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Head of service and General Manager.
Professional Development/ Education
To gain a sound knowledge of the tumour specific medical knowledge, terminology and procedures. This will include diagnostics (radiology/pathology), surgery and oncology services
To undertake any further training which may be relevant to the post
To ensure all statutory and mandatory training is undertaken as required
To attend any relevant Cancer Network Tumour Group meetings
To participate in performance and development reviews
Demonstrate effective management of time and resources.
Communication
To work in a team environment, to provide appropriate support
To communicate daily with a wide range of staffing levels within the NHS and other healthcare organisations
To demonstrate excellent communication skills. To ensure effective liaison between all members of the MDT and with other trusts and departments
To ensure all information relating to the suspected and diagnosed cancer patient pathway is communicated effectively and by the most appropriate medium.
Information/ System/ Data Quality/ Auditing
To be responsible for entering accurate and complete data on all diagnosed cancer patients
To work with GI MDT Co-ordinators and Pathway Trackers and ensure a co-ordinated and smooth handover of patients to be discussed at MDT or with a suspicion or diagnosis of cancer
To have a full understanding of the Information systems in use for the management of patients within the patient's pathway
To be competent in the use of the following computer systems, and where necessary to highlight to the General Manager where additional training is required: Cancer Services Wait Times Database (which incorporates patient tracking list), Trusts Patient administration system, Radiology computer systems (PACS) and Pathology system (EPR)
To be competent in the use of any other tumour group specific computer systems that will ease the process of tracking patient pathways
