An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Clinician with a keen interest in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Autism and Learning disability to work within our expanding, multi-disciplinary early intervention Mental Health Support Team (MHST). The post holder will be involved in the continuing development and implementation of the MHST for Special
Schools across Hertfordshire and West Essex. This is a unique expanding MHST working solely in SEN schools.

The MHST’s are working in collaboration with schools to increase and improve emotional and mental health provision within education settings for 5-18 year olds. The team currently works with 20 schools across Hertfordshire and West Essex, and plans are developing to expand the offer to more schools across the integrated care board.

The MHSTs will deliver evidence-based interventions supporting emotional wellbeing including group interventions, individual interventions, consultation and training and incorporates full assessments of care needs and risk assessments. The ultimate aim of the MHST is to support a whole school approach to develop, build and support emotional
well-being. We are seeking to appoint a motivated and forward-thinking Lead clinician who can work flexibly and is committed to the success and delivery of the project.

To have full clinical oversight of all clinical practice within the MHST.

To lead, support and supervise staff team.

To provide training and learning opportunities for the team.

To liaise and network with wider commissioners, NHSE, and other professionals.

To have a vast knowledge of clinical interventions and how to adapt for the SEN population.

To be adaptable in your working style to meet the needs of the schools we work with.

To fully participate in the development of the service.

The post is permanent and will be full time (Flexible or part time working will be considered), based in Sandridge Gate, St Albans with regular planned travel across Hertfordshire and West Essex. We would

The MHST is hosted by PALMS (Positive behaviour, Autism, Learning disability, Mental health Service). PALMS offers individually tailored support for children and young people (CYP), aged 0-19 who have a global learning disability and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorder, helping families to manage challenging behaviour and/or to support mental health needs.
- Able to oversee all clinical interventions and resources within the service
- Provide clinical supervision to Band 5,6 and 7 staff
- Provide learning and development opportunities for the whole team
- Develop manualized approaches to meet the needs of SEND
- Offer a consultation service to other MHST’s
- Continue to develop and evolve the service
- Assess and manage risk and safeguarding
- Able to establish and maintain effective inter-agency and inter-team communication
- To provide specialist assessment, intervention, advice and consultation on CYP’s care to colleagues, professionals from other agencies and to other non-professional carers.
- Able to plan and to lead workshops and therapeutic groups
- Able to maintain a high degree of professionalism when working in settings where there is a highly emotive atmosphere.
- Flexible in their approach and have resilience under pressure
- Able to work both in a team environment and autonomously
