GSL SEN Education are looking for a Psychology Graduate based in Leicester to work as a SEN LSA (Learning Support Assistant) in one of our specialist schools for children who have an EHCP for their trauma, social, emotional, and mental health challenges, ADHD, ADD, OCD and several more associated conditions.

The LSA role being aimed at sincere Criminology, Psychology or Sociology graduates, looking to gain practical experience within the field. This role will help you with your aspirations within Clinical Psychology, Advocacy and Youth/Social Justice, giving you daily exposure to just how nuanced and vital this role is.

2 key questions to always remind yourself of when taking on this LSA role in an Alternative Learning Provision when you are working with your students:

- Can you build relationships that are based on comfort through a Restorative approach?_

- Leading to _
- Can you demonstrate the value of an education to the students?_

These are 2 of the key aspects of this role, you must be sincere and understand this role and roles similar, are very challenging. This LSA role is very challenging as each child has a different context for their mental health and trauma, their own idiosyncrasies, cultures, and home lives that will be very different to each other. Therefore, building comfort and relationships, through a restorative model is so important and should never be overlooked.

That is why it is vital that you can QUALIFY and even more importantly, DISQUALIFY the SEN and Mental Health sectors for yourself.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
- School: Monday to Friday, full time, 8:50 to 3:10pm, term time only
- Mid-sized provision of 60 children, boys, and girls, aged 5-16
- Working with outstanding SEN Professionals and like-minded Psychology and Criminology graduates
- Clinical Psychologists on site, either working pro bono or brought in from outside agencies
- Potential of shadowing specialists, dependent on their schedule and each child’s context and situation
- Classes of no more than 6, you will have a mixture of 1:1 and small group work in class, dependent on the lesson and individual contexts
- Focus on Key and Personal Skills, Sports, Cooking, Technology, Music, Drama, Photography and Art
- All training and support provided by the school with their excellent training system
