In order for Policy Group to meet its evolving business needs all Policy Group staff are expected to attend their base location (102 Petty France or 5 Wellington Place Leeds) at least 2 days a week. This hybrid working arrangement is not contractual and as a result staff could be asked to attend their base location more frequently.

**Salary**

**Job Description overview**

**The Work of Priority Project Unit**

The Priority Projects Team (PPT) is a high-profile, friendly, and supportive team working at the heart of the MoJ’s policy making function.

We act as an in-house consultancy, working on projects of a few weeks to 6 months, to deliver on the department’s top policy priorities. We typically work in small project teams of up 5 people.

Each project is unique, fast-paced, and exciting. Recently our projects have covered policy areas including victims policy, youth justice, legal aid, problem solving courts, and justice and the economy.

**Senior Policy Adviser - the role**

You will need to be comfortable working with ambiguity, when supporting the delivery of complex and challenging policy projects across the MoJ’s policy responsibilities.

The role will give you the opportunity to work with senior stakeholders across MoJ as well as other government departments and will usually involve engagement with ministerial teams, private offices, and Senior Civil Servants.

**As a Senior Policy Adviser in the Priority Projects Team, you will**:

- Lead or support the delivery of a range of high-priority policy projects which align with the Department’s priorities.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Priority Projects Team, other policy professionals across the Department, analysts, lawyers, and operational colleagues to understand complex issues quickly and develop robust and evidence-based policy proposals.
- Produce high-quality written and oral briefings for senior officials and Ministers, distilling complex ideas into clear and concise advice.
- Some roles will also involve line management responsibility for more junior staff members.
- Typical daily tasks may include:

- Leading meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders
- Drafting key policy products e.g., slides, briefings for ministers
- Leading desk-based research and policy analysis (e.g., issue trees)
- Planning out a workstrand for a project, setting clear milestones with more senior staff and managing more junior colleagues

Every member of PPT plays a key role in shaping the team and driving forward our priorities. You will contribute in our regular team meetings, including occasionally chairing, and bringing ideas for how we can continuously improve and make the team a great place to work.
