**Job summary**:
Policy Group’s role is to provide sound and timely advice to ministers and the DWP Executive Team and to translate their decisions into effective policies and efficient public services. Policy Group supports ministers and the Executive Team in establishing the future direction of the Department.

Family Division, within Poverty, Families and Disadvantage Directorate leads on family policies with DWP, including significant cross-government interaction. Responsibilities within the division include:
Reducing Parental Conflict Programme, working with Local Authorities in England to support families where there is frequent, intense and poorly resolved parental conflict.

DWP’s contribution to key Government priorities, such as Supporting Families Programme (DLUHC), The Family Test (DWP), Tackling Domestic Abuse (HO), and Tackling Loneliness (CMS).

Work within the Family Division supports families, including children, to improve mental and physical health and have happier, safer lives.

**Job description**:
Senior Policy Advisors in the Family Division play a central role in leading and supporting family policy work. We are looking for motivated, resilient, and adaptable individuals who are able to bring their existing skills, knowledge and experience of children and families policy or delivery to the team. You must have strong problem-solving skills, be able to communicate a range of ideas clearly and be able to work with complex or incomplete data when making decisions. You will be comfortable with both directed working as part of a team and activity that is self-directed and autonomous. You will have oversight of policy areas where DWP do not have full ownership and will need to know how to make an effective contribution in these circumstances.

The role will give you the opportunity to work with senior stakeholders across DWP, within other government departments and the wider children and families sector.

You will:

- Lead or support the development of policy and related projects which align with the Department and wider government’s priorities.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in Programme Delivery, other policy professionals, analysts and service delivery colleagues across the department.
- Establish collaborative relationships with key stakeholders from across the DWP, wider government and within the children and families sector.
- Produce high-quality written and oral briefings for senior officials and Ministers, distilling complex ideas into clear and concise advice.

**Person specification**:
We are looking for someone with policy or strategic experience related to Children and Family services within Government, Local Authority, Charity or the wider Public Sector (for example health, education).

**Experience Key Criteria**
- Evidence of understanding the current national policy challenges for children and family services. **(Lead Criteria)**:

- Experience of building relationships with busy stakeholders to achieve change.
- Experience of operating in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment to provide policy advice and briefing to seniors and Ministers.
- Knowledge of how to deliver oral and written information effectively.
