**1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB**
Provide a point of contact and support for members within the region, for training, member recruitment and associated processes. The role will encompass a developmental and administrative focus, working primarily with Area Presidents and as necessary, Conference Presidents around capacity building, recruitment & retention, good governance, member development and training, communication and data management.

**2. ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB**
The SVP is a large, national, voluntary organisation with extensive experience of working with a diverse range of people who experience poverty and exclusion. Through its network of over 12,000 volunteers and 800 staff, it is strongly committed to working for social justice and advocates the creation of a more just and caring society. SVP employs people to support volunteers in a variety of settings including housing and hostels, community care, shops, administration and other specialist areas.

The Society is Christian based with a strong sense of Gospel values. The founder of the Society, was

Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and his legacy of spirituality remains a key element for volunteer members of the Society and underpins the conduct of conference meetings. It can often therefore be normal practice within the Society that prayers are said at the beginning and end of Conference meetings or at meetings where members are in attendance as this underpins the ethos of the

Society. There is no requirement for staff members to actively participate in the saying of prayers but to respect the ethos of the Society and be aware that this practice may occur.

The role is part of the Regional team based in Belfast and is offered on a Hybrid basis. Travel within the NI region is required for this role attending evening and weekend meetings at local, area and regional level. Given the diverse nature and size of the Society there is a requirement for the job holder to be flexible in their approach to ensure the needs of the organisation are met.

There may be a need to assign additional /alternative tasks or duties dependent on the needs of the region and will be within the job holder’s capabilities e.g. prepare reports for Regional Coordinator as required. There is a strong requirement to work in the spirit of collaboration with other colleagues, paid and volunteer.

**3. GUIDANCE AND AUTHORITY**
The job holder will report directly to the Regional Manager, who is the line manager. The job holder will liaise and co-operate (dotted line reporting) with the National Member Support Manager at

National Office to promote compliance with SVP policies and best practice and to promote a consistent approach nationally in terms of recruitment, member development, training and data protection. Liaise with Regional Manager (acting on behalf of the Regional Council) and National

Member Support Manager on any changes/dissemination of policies in relation to members. The

Regional Office performs the function of an administrative centre to support the core work of the

Regional Council and the National Management Council.

The post holder is expected to operate with considerable autonomy and where necessary refer upwards as needed.

**2. Quality Visitation - Compliance with The Member Support Officer, (MSO), will**

**best practice **support the Area Presidents to ensure all necessary steps are in place to ensure best practice and compliance in relation to visitations, adhering to Best Practice Guidelines.

**3. Capacity Building The MSO will use a variety of methods/approaches to support the developmental aspect of the work including, presentations, group facilitation, or other creative methods as required.**

**4. Recruitment & Retention In collaboration with the Area Presidents and supported by a national recruitment framework, the MSO will implement an ongoing recruitment campaign to ensure that conferences within their region are resourced effectively, in accordance with Regional and National**

Management priorities completing all relevant administration.
