Westminster, United Kingdom City of Westminster Council Full time

**About Us**:
**THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF DAPHNE’S INSIGHT**

Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where passionate and expert professionals go above and beyond for their colleagues every day.

Daphne, our champion for people with learning difficulties, is a real beacon. She doesn’t just advocate for colleagues with these difficulties, she teaches managers how to identify and understand the conditions and support their teams at work. Daphne has an innate ability to see the human behind every situation, helping them capitalise on strengths and overcome challenges to be their very best. With her empathy and expertise, she’s a natural. But then, a lifetime of managing her own dyslexia and dyspraxia brings with it unique insight. Our people - and ultimately residents - benefit every day.

Please view the extraordinary story of Daphne’s Insight **here**.

**The Role**:
As a Community Organiser for North, Central or South Westminster you can make your own powerful contribution to the health and wellbeing of Westminster residents. We are developing a range of innovative Community Hubs that will enable us to tackle health inequalities and drive a better quality of life for anyone who attends these shared centres. It is important that these Hubs meet the needs of a diverse range of people, and that our local communities know they were directly involved in their development. This role is therefore focused on building relationships with our local residents, and championing their participation in the development and evolution of Hubs in north, south and central Westminster.

As such, you will work directly with local residents and groups to understand what they want these hubs to offer, so that you can translate this knowledge into the creation of innovative activities. Every day will present you with a wide range of challenges and opportunities as you utilise this knowledge to get these activities up and running.

Across all that you do, you will be determined to establish community ownership of each hub, so it is essential that you build trust with local people. Initiating contact with local residents and partners (including neighbourhood groups, businesses and voluntary sector organisations), you will gain an in-depth understanding of the challenges that they face and their priorities. You will then secure funds to tackle these issues, and devise and deliver exciting community projects, events and activities. This will include supporting the people who will be running our Hubs by developing training for them, and signposting them to the relevant support. Seeing to it that the budgets for your projects are being effectively managed, you will also take ownership of key areas surrounding your events such as data protection and health and safety.

With the full support of our passionate and supportive team behind you, This is an exciting chance to make a tangible difference to the lives of our local residents.

Please refer to the **Job Description** for more information.

**About You**:
To make the most of this great opportunity, you will need to be excited about the prospect of working directly in communities and with a variety of partners. You will therefore bring a great deal of flexibility to the role as you may need to be available to work outside your regular hours, and you will have fantastic relationship-building and stakeholder-management skills.

With a background in initiating and developing projects with communities and partners, you will have some experience of project planning and programme development, and you will know how to identify and secure resources for your planned initiatives. We will expect you to have good outreach and communication skills, and you will have a good awareness of due diligence when hosting events, particularly in areas relating to health and safety and data protection.

Crucially you will share all values of inclusion, representation, accountability and creativity, and you will be ready to share the types of ideas that will enhance the wellbeing of countless people.

**What We Offer**:
Westminster is an amazing place. We are home to more than 200,000 residents from all backgrounds, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people work in Westminster. Westminster City Council’s strategy is to work towards a Fairer Westminster. A Fairer Westminster is one in which our communities are at the heart of our decision-making and help to determine the city’s future. By working directly with our communities and other partners, we can build a more inclusive city that celebrates our diverse communities, and where residents, workers and visitors from all backgrounds will feel welcome and safe.

As a forward-thinking Council we appreciate that people work in different ways, therefore our staff benefit from working a range of flexible working patterns as well as Agile working.
