To promote good practice and effective communication within the Trust, and between the Trust and other agencies, on all matters relating to safeguarding and, in conjunction with relevant Trust colleagues, ensure that issues relating to information sharing and confidentiality are addressed. To collaborate with safeguarding professionals across Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and statutory and third sector partners to ensure that there is a consistent and coordinated approach to safeguarding practice across the health economy. Participate in regular supervision with his/her line manager. Contribute to the performance management and quality assurance processes to gain assurances of safeguarding practice from internal services including their adherence to safeguarding policies, legislation, governance requirements and best practice guidance.

Detailed knowledge of statutory requirements of Safeguarding Children and Adults. Provide safeguarding support, advice and supervision to both LYPFT staff, and safeguarding team colleagues. Ability to prepare reports, analyse complex data for Boards, Committees and Management groups. Experience of writing and analysing management reports for serious incident reviews.

Advise staff on health matters with regard to safeguarding children and adults at risk including advice on highly complex, contentious safeguarding issues. To provide highly specialist advice and direction to all clinical and non-clinical community, inpatient, specialist and support staff at the point of need where there are concerns about the welfare of a child/adult. Provision of training as required by both adult and child Intercollegiate documents. Participate in multi-agency subgroups of the Local safeguarding childrens partnership and Local safeguarding adults board LSCP/LSAB.

Knowledge of MAPPA process and promote as integral to safeguarding clinical practice. Provide support to staff who work with MAPPA eligible service-users. Support the head and deputy head of safeguarding in providing leadership across the trust and to support safeguarding in the wider health economy. Be aware of, and adhere to, all Trust policies, and act as a positive role model to other staff.

To support staff in safeguarding their service users through advice, supervision and attendance at multiagency meetings. Production of written reports in relation to case conferences, meetings and to provide briefing, advice and guidance sessions on safeguarding to staff, in particular when new national or local guidance comes into force or lessons need to be learnt following a serious case. To collaborate with other Trust professionals to ensure that there is a consistent and coordinated approach to safeguarding practice which is in line with the Local Safeguarding partnership/ boards policies and procedures. To support staff in the preparation of court proceedings, taking specialist advice as necessary.

Ensure that he/she is aware of current developments and practice in relation to the interface between safeguarding services and mental health and learning disability services Promote innovations or practice developments, both internal and external to the Trust. To ensure that arrangements are in place for, and provide where appropriate, safeguarding supervision and training to all staff involved in providing services in the organization with a specific focus to those working directly with children. Provide safeguarding supervision and ensure peer review/reflection using a model to support all staff as appropriate. Provide safeguarding training to LYPFT staff and on behalf of the Local Safeguarding Children Partnerships and Adults Boards to a multi-agency audience.

Embed the Safeguarding Supervision Policy and its delivery. Participate in projects within the Trust as negotiated with senior management. To ensure that the voice of the child and the promotion of anti-discriminatory practice are incorporated into all aspects of safeguarding practice. Support and advice to health professionals before during and after their work in the Child Protection Process.

Assessment and analysis of highly complex information that may be emotionally distressing and highly contentious. Leadership to promote excellent practice in others, including fostering a style of work in other professionals that is inclusive, co-operative and respectful of all service users. Identification of risk faced by children/adults or LYPFT professionals. Analysis of the impact of hostile situations on the decision making process.

Management of highly charged emotional issues to identify risk to children/adults Advanced knowledge of child development and law and the ability to interpret and make recommendations from broad policies and guidelines.
