About:

A well-established company located in Mansfield, operating out of a custom-built 62,000 sq ft office and manufacturing facility. Now in its 21st year. They have built a reputation as one of the UK’s premier providers of bespoke joinery and interior contracting services, serving leading clients across the retail, commercial, leisure, and museum sectors. With a dedicated team of 65, they on track to achieve a turnover of £10 million this year.

They are currently seeking to strengthen our commercial department by hiring an experienced Commercial Manager to be based at the Mansfield office.

The Role

Our projects vary in scale, with values ranging from £30,000 to £3 million, and cover multiple sectors, each with unique technical and contractual requirements. To date, there project managers have handled commercial management, supported by directors and estimators. However, as our operations expand, they are looking for a Commercial Manager to take full responsibility for this area.

You will oversee a team of three seasoned estimators, with initial estimate reviews currently conducted by our directors. The objective is for you to gradually take over this adjudication role, becoming the primary leader in all commercial matters.

Additionally, you will be responsible for recruiting, training, and developing Quantity Surveyors to support our growing project portfolio. They are implementing a succession plan for our senior management team, and the Commercial Manager will be integral to this process.

Experience in interior contracting is essential, and familiarity with general building alterations and shell preparation works would be beneficial. Additionally, knowledge of the joinery manufacturing process and bespoke joinery installation is a plus.

We seek a candidate with excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills, who is detail-oriented and understands how to successfully manage and deliver projects. Strong organizational skills, the ability to collaborate effectively, and the capacity to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment are crucial. Leadership skills are also essential, as you will be expected to build and guide a strong commercial team.

Key Responsibilities:

* Reviewing and adjudicating tenders

* Providing estimating support during peak times

* Reviewing and approving contracts and subcontracts

* Managing and assessing contractual risks

* Overseeing supply chain management, including updates to subcontracts and ordering protocols

* Participating in tender interviews and contract negotiations

* Supporting project teams with commercial queries

* Ensuring timely pricing and agreement of variations

* Managing contractual correspondence, including Extensions of Time (EoT) and claims

* Submitting interim applications for payment and overseeing credit control processes

* Negotiating and finalizing accounts

* Implementing and maintaining contract management systems

* Leading contract enforcement, dispute resolution, and other remedies

* Building and training a commercial team

* Maintaining strong relationships with clients

* Actively promoting the company’s services

* Keeping updated with industry trends and changes that may impact the business
