This post is expected to involve cross site daytime sessions. The overall commitment in the job plan will be annualised with regard to sessions worked.The job plan outlined in Appendix 1 of the Job Description is intended to demonstrate what a typical week will look at UHL, an example plan is given. The weekly layout of the job plan may ultimately change slightly, but the substance of the sessions the DCC/SPA split will not. The DCC PA activity undertaken covering this contributes to the DCC PA component of the annualised job plan.The department may be able to accommodate some requests with regards to working patterns, including less than full time job plans or anaesthetic DCC activity.Person Specification

Qualifications

EssentialMedical degree, MBBS or equivalentFull and Specialist registration for Anaesthesia; (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalentCompletion of Advanced Pain Training or equivalentApplicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.Applicants that are non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT and be on the GMC Specialist Register/Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) application in a nonCCT specialty awaiting approvalDesirablePost Graduate Degree related to chronic pain e.g. MD, PhD, MSc

Clinical skills and Experience

EssentialWide experience in Pain managementAbility to undertake the clinical work expected of a chronic pain consultant in NHS practice in England.DesirableEvidence of extended period of additional subspecialty training in in Chronic Pain Management in a tertiary centreExperience in supervising chronic pain trainees and others in clinical practiceBroad experience of working within the NHS

Teaching Experience

EssentialExperience of teaching and training of undergraduates, medical and allied health professionalsAbility to teach clinical skills to anaesthetic trainees of all levels, and achieving GMC standards to be recognised as a clinical supervisorDesirableEvidence of formal experience in medical education including regional/national teaching Higher teaching qualificationEvidence of achieving GMC standards to be recognised as an educational supervisorAn understanding of current issues in medical education and training

Clinical Governance
