Job summary

To ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support. To link with healthcare teams in order to increase knowledge and facilitate the care of this group of people in all healthcare settings.

Main duties of the job

A vacancy has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, assertive and committed Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join the Inpatient Pain Service here at St George's Hospital, South West London. We are a large teaching hospital as well as a regional trauma centre and a tertiary referral centre for a broad range of surgical specialties.

Our mission is 'to provide a service devoted to the highest level of individualised, holistic care and to create awareness among staff of the services and education we provide.' Many patients with pain have highly complex needs due to multiple pathologies and psycho/social issues, which can be challenging and require expert input from our specialist team.

We are a resource for advice, education and support for all clinical staff, aiming to provide excellent evidence based care.

The successful candidate: will be an advanced practitioner either through formal qualification and/or extensive clinical experience pertinent to the field of pain management; have the ability to organise their time efficiently and be able to work independently as well as part of a team to provide timely and appropriate pain management.

Demonstrate excellent communication skills with patients and members of the MDT; have experience in preparing teaching, presenting and audit.

Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases.
