Clinical Nurse Specialist In Laryngology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in laryngology based in the ENT department at Charing Cross Hospital. The role supports of the National Centre for Airway Reconstruction and a leading dysphagia and voice service. The appointed candidate will deliver specialist high quality care to patients with a tracheostomy or other altered airway conditions in both in-patient and out-patient settings.

Reporting to our Matron for ENT, they will also be working alongside world renowned airway surgeons. Key work streams include managing a case load of patients via virtual and face to face clinics, supporting the in-patient nursing team on our ENT ward and our critical care unit, and close collaboration with our airway consultants in the interventional clinic. We are looking for someone to work closely with our MDT team, consisting of medical staff, speech and language therapists, a psychologist and another clinical nurse specialist, to provide world class care to our patients.

The appointed candidate must be confident in delivering training to other inpatient areas on tracheostomy and difficult airway care and as such a recognized teaching qualification is required. The candidate is expected to demonstrate skills in effective communication, co-ordination of care and an ability to work flexibly within a multi-disciplinary team. Providing excellent patient-centered care is critical for all our patients and key role to this role is the ability to demonstrate empathy and compassionate communication.

The post-holder will be provided with extensive development opportunities to develop the role of senior clinical nurse specialist and to undertake nurse-led and advanced practice in the future.

Main duties of the job

  • To deliver high quality specialist nursing
  • To collect audit and data relevant to the service
  • Provide consultation and act as a resource to other professionals
  • Provide education to staff, patients and relatives.
  • Be an active part of research projects.
  • Arrange and conduct MDT's

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree in nursing or other relevant subject
  • Post graduate qualification in ENT/ Critical care

Desirable

  • Educated to or working towards master's level qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive clinical experience airway nursing
  • Management of staff and a service.
  • Proven achievement at band 7 level
  • Formal and Informal Teaching

Desirable

  • Project management
  • Experience as specialist nurse
  • Publications and Presentations

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential

  • Physical assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills
  • Able to manage difficult situations effectively
  • Effective time management for self and others
  • Formal and informal teaching experience
