An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinical nurse specialist nurse to join our gynae oncology team at UCH. This is a great chance for someone who is looking to develop in their career in leadership and clinical expertise, whilst also remaining ‘hands on’. 

You would be a motivated individual with a passion for Women’s Health. You would have significant experience in all aspects of gynae oncology. You will be expected lead the CNS team and strive to look for chances to improve the care of our patients and welcome opportunities to do so. You would have the courage to challenge others if you felt that they were not upholding the Trust Values. 

We are a small team of motivated and friendly nurses working closely alongside a medical team who lead on Women’s Health research both nationally and internationally. We see a variety of patients in a busy outpatient setting and work closely with the inpatient ward nursing team. 
There will be chances to develop leadership skills through in-house training within this post. 
The successful candidate for this post must be a team player, but also able to work under their own initiative. They will require excellent communication, people skills and the ability to take lead in a busy environment.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Lead CNS is to line manage the nursing team and to ensure the daily running of the service. Maintaining high standards of clinical care at all times.

The role would include:
• Supervision of a team of nurses an support workers
• Co-ordination of the clinics to the smooth running of clinics
• Providing leadership and management to nursing team
• Ensuring safe, kind and compassionate care for our patients
• Maintaining safe staffing levels
• Dealing with patient queries arising throughout the day in the department and liaising with medical teams and ensure appropriate escalation 
• Run and support nurse-led outpatient clinics 
• Providing a high level of clinical support in outpatient and inpatient settings
• Demonstrating good communication skills with colleagues, patients and their carers
• Being open to change in the department and learning new skills as needed
• Demonstrating teamwork by being flexible and building good working relationships with colleagues
• Providing education and support to nursing team
• Responsible for the safe administration and custody of medications
• Challenging those who are not meeting the standards of the Trust or following local policies
• Supporting research within the department
