Norwich Norfolk, United Kingdom Royal Academy Of Dance Full time

Job Summary

The Head of Living Art will provide leadership in the stewardship and management of the Sainsbury Centre Collection. You will have responsibility for the permanent collection overseeing conservation, loans, acquisitions, documentation, and collections research.

Job Description

The Sainsbury Centre

The Sainsbury Centre is a genre-defying art museum with world-class collections and a unique perspective in how art can foster cultural dialogue and exchange. The Centre was founded in 1973 by Sir Robert and Lady Sainsbury, built on the gift of their extraordinary collection to the University of East Anglia and housed in Sir Norman Foster's first ever public architectural masterpiece.

The vision of our founders was to encourage visitors to have a fundamentally unique museum experience at the Sainsbury Centre. We live by this ambition today and currently our visitors come from all over the world to enjoy a beautiful and dynamic arts landscape across three floors of indoor gallery space and a 20-acre sculpture park stretching out through surrounding meadow, forest, and lake. It is an institution that has always broken the rules to empower art and people and is a wonderful place to work.

The Role

As Head of Living Art, you will be in charge of the Living Area permanent galleries and growing Sculpture Park to further develop our distinctive Sainsbury Centre approach to visitor experience.

The Head of Living Art will be committed to our innovative museological approach, utilising the founding collection, which is the lifeblood of the Sainsbury Centre, as a bedrock upon which to use and empower art to help people address societal change. They will cultivate a collections strategy which fosters constant dialogue, brings people closer to art and promotes the inclusive right of access to art for everyone. They will develop methods of conserving, researching, interpreting, and sharing the collections which opens new possibilities for connections to be made with our audiences across all communities and around the globe.
