Our client, a local authority in Exeter, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Income Recovery Officer to join their Financial Services team in the Debt Recovery unit for a 3-month contract, with the potential for extension. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the effective management of sundry debtor invoice balances.

THE ROLE
The successful candidate will be responsible for efficiently managing the recovery of outstanding debts. Key responsibilities include:
  • Monitoring and controlling customer accounts in arrears.
  • Initiating reminder letters and escalating recovery actions as appropriate.
  • Ensuring recovery procedures are proportionate and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding each customer's financial position to agree on sustainable payment arrangements.
  • Providing information to external third-party representatives regarding arrears cases.
  • Tracing absconders and recommending cases for write-off.
  • Actioning invoice cancellation requests.
  • Ensuring monthly periodic invoices are produced.
  • Producing management reports on outstanding invoices and arrears analysis.
  • Undertaking all administrative tasks associated with the team, including handling post and emails, making daily adjustments to arrangements, and updating customer records.

THE CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role, demonstrating strong skills in debt recovery and financial management. Additional requirements include:

  • Experience in managing customer accounts in arrears.
  • Familiarity with debt recovery procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to assess financial positions and negotiate payment arrangements.
  • Proficiency in handling administrative tasks related to debt recovery.
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with various stakeholders.

THE CONTRACT

  • 37 hours per week
  • 3-month contract with potential for extension
