Who we are:

We are Vet-AI, and we are delivering the pet care of the future. Our flagship app, Joii Pet Care was created to make pet care affordable and accessible for all pet owners. Through Joii, pet mums and dads can video call a vet 24/7, use an intelligent pet symptom checker (think NHS 111 but for pets), or seek preventative care through nurse clinics. And yes - it can all be done from the comfort of home - drastically reducing the need for in-person vet trips.

To  date,  over  £12m  has  been  raised  in  various  rounds of funding. The business is already trading successfully and has the full support of its financial and strategic investors, which include global leaders in  pet  healthcare.  There  will  be  further  funding  rounds  in  the  short  to  medium term to support the development of ground-breaking technology solutions for the benefit of animal welfare.

Role Summary:

We are seeking a seasoned Finance Director to join our team at Vet-AI, a fast-paced technology start-up. 


As Finance Director you will be responsible for leading our financial strategy, managing the financial operation, running payroll, leading the small finance team, driving growth, and ensuring financial stability.


We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Finance Director, the ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of financial markets, strategic financial planning, and operational finance. This role requires someone who can operate at both a strategic and detailed level, providing insightful analysis while managing day-to-day financial operations.


 This is a standalone role and you will report directly to the CEO.


Job Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the company’s financial strategy in alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Advise the executive team on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters.
  • Support in negotiations of commercial contracts to demonstrate potential financial impact on the business.


Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Lead long-term financial planning and analysis, providing insightful recommendations.
  • Produce budgets and financial projections of P&L, Balance sheets, Source & Use of Funds, KPIs – monthly.
  • Report against the above budgets and projections – weekly, monthly, and annually; and provide insights into performance improvement.


Investment Management:

  • Manage relationships with investors.
  • Drive fundraising activities, including preparing investment materials and participating in investor presentations.
  • Support business leaders in presentations to financial institutions and major commercial shareholders in general, and in funding rounds.


Operational Finance Management:

  • Cash management – control of debtors, creditors, and stockholding levels.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems
  • Oversee payroll function


Team Leadership:

  • Run a small finance and administration team
  • Mentor and develop team members, ensuring professional growth and effective succession planning.


Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Assist business leaders in understanding the cost and benefits of intangible spending and major marketing initiatives.
  • Work closely with the company's external financial and legal advisors.
  • Supporting online business team leaders with reports on operational efficiency and KPIs.
  • Supporting product manager with data and negotiations on price, discounts, and margins.


Knowledge/Experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Corporate Finance, or a related field; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CFA, CPA) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant finance experience, desirable experience in investment banking.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate finance, capital markets, financial planning, and analysis.
  • Ambitious, impactful, self-starter
  • Proven track record of leading financial strategy and operations in a high-growth environment.

  • Leadership and team management potential.
  • Ideally, experience in a tech start-up / scale-up business.
